Just bought my plex pass and tried to download some films for offline use. Failed because the download button is missing. Maybe anyone got an idea?
Need to give the normal deets.
- What is the server version?
- What is the client device and version?
- We you doing this from home or remotely?

Which client?
Downloads are available only on the mobile apps and Plex Desktop.
It may take awhile (a few hours) for your Plex server to pick up your Plex Pass. You can restart Plex Media Server to force the process, since PMS checks in with Plex at startup.
See if any Plex Pass only features are available when you access your server settings. If so, then your server knows about your Plex Pass.
- Settings → Transcoder + Show Advanced: Do you see options to enable hardware transcoding?
- Settings → Remote Access + Show Advanced: Is the Limit Remote Stream Bitrate option available?
You may need to logout/login with the client as well.

If accessing a server shared with you, the server admin must have a Plex Pass and must give you permission to download from their server.

No downloads from the free ad supported video on demand service.

Using Plex only in home-network.
Still no download option available…
Are you trying to download content which is hosted on your personal Plex server? Or is it content which is available per the free, ad-supported “Movies & TV” library directly from plex.tv?
The latter does not allow downloading. It is simply not licensed for that.
Which Plex client are you using?
Try signing out / signing back in of client.
