No files showing on Plex server

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151
Player Version#:

We’ve been encountering bad storms and power outages on a daily basis, which is giving my Qnap NAS fits. Afger this latest outage, my Plex server shows ZERO files in movies, TV Shows, etc. I see the groups I have set up, but there are no movies at all, even though the files are still on the server. I’ve tried scanning the libraries and refreshing the metadata, but nothing refreshes the content. HELP!! I have over 1,000 titles that no longer show up.

With all those power outages… have you already checked your server logs for indications of database corruption? If your server was writing to the database when such an outage happened, this could cause some trouble.

Otherwise… have you checked the server still has permission to see your media?

How would I do either of those? I’m somewhat new to the QNAP and OS it runs.

If you cannot access your server logs though the Plex web interface, you can still get them from within the server’s data directory/share:

I suppose this QNAP tutorial might be helpful with regards to permissions (though I don’t have a reference if it’s still valid).

OK, I have the server logs, but still working on permissions for the database.

Can’t make heads or tails out of the server logs and have no idea how to check permissions on the QNap to ensure Plex has access to the files. When I click on scan files, Plex does nothing.

If you post your server logs we can give you help.

Here are the logs.

There’s quite a number of errors in those logs – the good news is your database doesn’t seem to be corrupted – the bad news is that I’m not sure those errors explain why your libraries seem to no longer show any of their content.

There’s some errors related to attempts of contacting plex.tv. This could be linked to some firewall or a bad DNS server (failing to resolve the domain). Possibly this is also linked to the next cluster of errors, though…

There’s some other errors indicating there might be some more serious issue about the network of your QNAP (every now and then the QNAP operating system seems to close/cancel network connections used by Plex)

I think I found my issue. It appears all the files in my folders have been amended with .deadbolt, indicating the QNAP got hit by malware

How did you solve?

I haven’t, yet. I refuse to pay a ransom to those scum. Researching ways to decrypt the files. I’ve already removed the malware
