Hello,

Still a newbie, I just noticed that my smartphone does not connect to my Plex Media Server when using cellular data only. As soons as I am in an environment where Wifi is available there is no problem any more. As I have enough data volume I would like to be able to occasionally play the odd video. Is there a way to force the Plex Android App to connect to the Plex Server using cellular data?

Many thanks for your help.

Sounds like your remote access setup isn’t working?
Do you have that option enabled on your server (Settings > [Server Name] > Remote Access)?

Hello Tom80H,

Thanks for the quick reply. I believe that the remote setup is working all right, as it states: “Fully accessible outside your network” in green, so that should be fine. And if it was not I would not be able to access the server as soon as WiFi is available, would I ?

Thanks for your help.

True… if that WIFI is not the same network where your Plex Media Server is running.

In that case you probably need to review the Android cellular data settings and grant Plex permission to use mobile data. The only cellular-data related settings inside Plex that I remember are related to allowing sync/downloads with mobile data and setting a default video quality preference for mobile streaming.

Thanks a lot, that solved my problem! I hadn’t realized that I also needed to change the settings of the Plex Android app. Now, everything is working fine.
