After updating my ReadyNas 214 from 1.14.x to 1.15.x it is no longer possible to stop the Plex server application. Attempting to stop the app from the ReadyNas UI by changing the toggle simply results in an infinite “Toggling Service” dialog, while the service never actually stops. Attempting to kill the processes forceably from SSH results in the Plex processes restarting themselves as quickly as they are killed.
I have to assume that failure to respond to the UI is some kind of bug. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
That’s probably the problem. PMS 1.14.x was the last release of the “old” versions. Starting with 1.15.x PMS was re-written with a much smaller file (92.6mv v 72.6mb).
There are a number of topics under server-netgear where users were prompted to uninstall the old version before installing the new version.
I actually did the same as you with the same consequences. I found PMS almost unuseable until I finally gave up and manually deleted PMS completely and started again installing 1.14.1.5488 as it is still the best version.
While I had hoped there was another workaround, I reverted to build 1.14.5488 and all the issues with starting/stopping the service went away. Thankfully I always archive old builds in case I need to roll back.
If I uninstall 1.14.x to perform the upgrade to 1.15.x, will my database be preserved?
I went ahead and tried the full uninstall/reinstall and I can now confirm that yes, it will erase your database. You’ll be setting PLEX up from scratch all over again. Sadly, even after doing all this you still cannot stop/start PLEX from the ReadyNAS console, making the whole exercise worthless.
Pity we have to go backwards to get a working setup. Didn’t Plex support test the new slimmer 1.15.x version before releasing it on the unsuspecting public. It certainly doesn’t like netgear NAS setups.
