Server Version#:1.15.4.993-cc260c476_armel.deb
Player Version#: 3.95.2
Just updated Plex and once again I can NOT turn off the server on my RN214 Readynas.
Plex Media (2.5 MB)
There’s the zip of the logs…Server runs fine so far just can’t turn it off. This also was happening with V1.15.1.791-8bec0f76c_armel.deb. The highest version I can use and still have a functional OFF button is 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476_armel.deb.
Need more info let me know.

When you upgraded PMS to 1.15.x from 1.14.1.5488 dd you uninstall 1.14.1.5488 first?
No I did not. Should I have?
Yes. PMS 1.14.1.5488 was the last version of the “old code” releases. Starting with 1.15.x PMS was rewritten so 1.14.1.5488 had to be uninstalled before installing 1.15.x
Personally I have a readyNAS RN212 and I haven’t had any luck getting any of the 1.15.x releases to work properly for me so I’ve reverted back to 1.14.1.5488 and all is good again. I don’t intend to upgrade until I read that at least 2 or more readyNAS users have a 1.15.x or later with EVERYTHING working as it did in 1.14.1.5488. Just my 2 cents worth…
I backed up the folder I had 1.14.5488 installed in. I think I’ll just delete the 1.15.xxx folder and move the old folder back. If that doesn’t work I’ll just delete it again and reinstall 1.14.5488 and call it done. Shame that it SEEMS like there is no support from anyone from Plex reading through these forums and offering up some help. Maybe I expect too much for free.
Uninstalling 1.14 first makes no difference. I have installed and 1.15 as an upgrade, as a clean install, on top of a running instance, and on top of a stopped instance. In every case, the app can no longer be stopped from the console, and cannot be removed afterwards. Even attempting to kill the process with an SSH session did not help.
Uninstalling 1.14 first simply wipes out your database. This issue has been noted several times on the forums over the past few weeks, and I’ve not seen any official response regarding it.
So has anyone tried V1.15.4.994 on their RN2xx???
As noted here: 1.15.4.993 - still cannot stop or uninstall on RN214
1.15.4.994 does not resolve this issue
Is it the damn firmware from netgear causing this or is it Plex…How about the latest V1.15.6.1079? Better yet how about a little SUPPORT from Plex on the issue!
It has to be Plex. PMS 1.14.1.5488 works perfectly but nothing since has.
Well I just gave up and moved my Plex to a Windows box. No love for ReadyNAS here.
PLEX is really p*ssing me off with this. DON’T push out a new version unless you THOROUGHLY TEST IT. What is wrong with modern coders anymore? Lazy.
I have a ReadyNAS 102, and a 212, and a 214. The 102 has version 1.16.0.1226 and can turn on/off without incident. The 212 and 214 have fresh installs of 1.16.0.1246 downloaded as the “ARM v7 (RN2xx Series)” and NOTHING can be done to shut down the Plex service on these RN2xx series machines.
I’m trying to copy the media library from the 212 to the 214 and just discovered this as the instructions say to shut off the media server. Oh well. Just another crappy software company. If there is an alternative with all the integration that Plex has, I just might cancel my subscription and switch. This is unacceptable software design, and they just don’t care if their customer’s setups work or not.
I’m having the same problem with my 214, cannot stop Plex (1.16.2.1321-ad17d5f9e) with the UI.
Because of this and I need anyway more transcode-performance, I’ve migrated the whole library to a Windows machine.
At least I’ve found a way to stop the Plex service on my 214 with the following command entered in the ssh console:
systemctl stop fvapp-plexmediaserver-annapurna.service
The migration from ReadyNAS (Linux) to Windows is pretty easy:
- Install Plex on Windows
- Setup Plex as usual as a new Server
- Stop Plex on Windows
- Stop Plex on NAS
- Copy all files from the NAS (/app/plexmediaserver-annapurna/MediaLibrary/) to the Windows Maschine (%localappdata%/Plex Media Server/) and override anything
– Don’t bother with Zipping the folder… this does take longer then copiing all directly, at least on this NAS (this MediaLibrary-folder has in my instance ~100GB…)
– Use WinSCP to copy all files from the NAS, but before you start, set the concurrent downloads in the WinSCP settings to max (=9)
- Open the preferences.xml file in %localappdata%/Plex Media Server/ (which you’ve copied from the NAS folder eg. MediaLibrary-Folder)
- Open the Windows Registry (Win+R regedit) and go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
- Go through each value in the preferences.xml and check if you find an entry in the registry, if so change the value to the one from the xml-file, else go to the next value and do not create a new registry entry
- Follow the rest of the tutorial on step “Reboot the Destination System” https://support.plex.tv/articles/201370363-move-an-install-to-another-system/
- If all works on the new Windows machine, you can delete the “plexmediaserver-annapurna”-folder on the NAS via ssh (since even if the Plex service is stopped by ssh, you cannot uninstall Plex by the ReadyNAS UI…)
I think it’s a disgrace that after all this time…NO SUPPORT at all.

The best option is to replace PMS on your readyNAS with PMS 1.14.1.5488. It all works as it should. I’m also told the older built-in PMS on the readyNAS v 1.11.x also works perfectly especially with the latest readyNAS firmware.
I don’t want to have to have both the readyNAS and a windows computer running just for PMS. Defeats the whole purpose of the redyNAS.
As far as support goes, well in the case of Netgear, it is non-existent.
Just adding comment as another user that can not shut down Plex Server on ReadyNas 212. Interestingly, have not had this problem with 312. Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling. And uninstalling/reinstalling older version. Still can’t toggle Plex to off.
And yet after MONTHS of being reported as an issue…NOTHING.
Did you completely remove all traces of PMS before reinstalling PMS 1.14.1.5488?
Works perfectly on my RN212. (I have heard that on some netgear RN212 setups running the very latest firmware that it breaks 1.14.1.5488 and they had to resort to the built-in PMS version 1.11.x
I’m still on the old firmware so can’t comment on that.
If you are referring to me…yes all traces of PMS were removed and I installed 1.14.1.5488 and it did work. If I recall correctly that is the last version that will work properly on my RN214. Nothing beyond that works like it should. i.e. won’t stop/shut down
I have since removed it from my RN214 and set it up on an old laptop simply because there is no support for the RN214. (or any other Readynas NAS)
No I was replying to bluray55, but you are right, netgear seems to be neglected by netgear support.
