Why did the PMS 1.15.x downloads get smaller?

Server Version#:1.15.2.793
Player Version#:

I was happily running 1.14.1.5488 when by accident I noticed a new 1.15.x version on the Plex website. The download was only 72.x mb whereas the old 1.14.1.5488 was 92.x mb.
Manually updating to 1.15.1.x caused nothing but trouble. EPG taking hours to refresh and at times making my Netgear readyNAS 212 unuseable. i kept updating but each new 1.15.x update bought more or different problems. Finally at 1.15.2.793 the EPG wouldn’t refresh al;l the channels and took hours refreshing the channels it did.
Yesterday i had enough and manually deleted the PMS app from my NAS. Rebooted the NAS, manually installed 1.14.1.5488, set it up and left it overnight to update the libraries and download all the metadata.
Today I set up my Live TV & DVR and the full EPG only took just over an hour to complete. No way i am updating again.
i would just love to know why the 1.15.x downloads are 20mb smaller than the 1.14.1.5488 and why doesn’t Plex Support publish a changelist with every release.
Lastly, is there a proper way to upgrade PMS on a NAS? I know it has to be done manually but can the later version just be installed over the older version or should it always be a clean install?

I just manually update over the existing version

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately from my viewpoint the new smaller PMS are a total fail. I haven’t managed to get one working properly so I’m staying with the bigger 1.14.1.5488.
Maybe when going from an older bigger version to the smaller newer versions the old big version may need to be uninstalled first.

EPG should not take that long. Feel like mine is minutes. I will have to watch.

Changelog is here for server.

Thanks for the link. Much appreciated.
Seems to me that when going from the old large versions of PMS to the new versions that I need to uninstall the old version and then install the new small versions from scratch fir best results.
I updated from 1.14.1.5488 to 1.15.1.790 and it was a disaster. Future updates didn’t fix anything so I deleted everything and went back to 1.14.1.5488. All good again.

RN314, have been able to manually update over the existing version until 1.15. These latest updates provide a system message titled “Confirm Deletion”, message “Installing plexmediaserver_1.15.4.993-bb4a2cb6c_amd64.deb also removes Plex Media Server. Do you wish to continue?” As such I’m sticking with 1.14.1.5488 until more and better information is available.

PMS from 1.15.x was the beginning of a rewritten PMS. Read about it here Plex Media Server

It’s now smaller but I haven’t found anyone using a Netgear NAS that has everything working like it did under 1.14.1.5488. I tried several of the 1.15.x builds from scratch but gave up in disgust and went back to 1.14.1.5488 which is where I will stay until I find some o0thers that have had complete success with 1.15.x on their Netgear NAS

I have a RN214 and had to roll back to 1.14.1.5488 too. I could not STOP PMS once it was installed. I’ll be waiting for success stories before I update again as well.
