RN214 Won't turn off Plex!

Server Version#: 1.15.2.793.7822

Player Version#:

Click on the off button for Plex and it just sits there trying to shut down Plex but never does.

Might be a good thing since if it did stop it it might not start back up…

Me too. Only way to syhut down is the ReadyNAS 214 Power Button.

Well it doesn’t appear we’re getting any help here. I’m going to remove Plex from my RN214 today and then reinstall it. I’ll let you know how that works out. What a shame we got no response after 5 days of sitting here.

EDIT: So it will not uninstall either. This is a mess Plex! Now I guess I’m going to have to reset my NAS! Well that’s it for Plex for me.

Well after 9+ hours of “syncing” I installed the latest version of Plex again and got the same results. No way to stop it, no way to uninstall it properly. So I figured I’m just going to go delete that folder that Plex made for itself. GONE! No Plex no more. So then I installed the older version from the app list on the NAS. Guess what, it works. Starts stops just fine. I think there is a bug within the last 2 releases of Plex.

Well 1.15.3.858 is out but I just read some Mac users are having issues playing movies…

I gave up on the 1.15.x versions. Manually removed the entire plexmediaserver folder on my RN212 and then did a clean install of the older larger 1.14.1.5488 now everything is fine again. In ReadyNAS admin Plex Media Server starts and stops like it should and PMS itself is rock stable.
No more updates for me.

Yes, I had the same issue. I did a clean uninstall of 1.14.x before installing 1.15.x and it did nothing but wipe out my database. The app still woudn’t stop/start, and worse, you can’t uninstall it either.

Try manually removing the plexmediaserver folder under Apps on your ReadyNAS using an SSH client like MobaXterm Personal (it’s free) and the reboot your NAS then do a clean install on PMS 1.14.1.5488.
It’s a long slow process but now everything works perfectly.

Hi All,
How do i get an older version? mine is doing the same and not shutting off or allowing me to uninstall.

Contact support and see if they will give it to you

Not only will my Netgear 204 plex server not shut down, it also will not transcode anything anymore… this is so sad. None of my videos will play. Most of them used to play. Plex is becoming a memory… Contact support? Don’t see any way to get help.

How do i do that? i can’t find an area to contact support anywhere???

That’s what I meant… all you can do is post here and see if there is a response… so far it’s been crickets

It appears Plex doesn’t have any avenue to contact support directly :frowning:

Maybe try creating a topic “Need PMS 1.14.1.5488 for Netgear 204” and politely ask if anyway has a copy of the installation file and could they upload it for you.

Hopefully someone still has one seeing it is the last stable version.
I have one for the RN212 but not sure if it’s compatible with your 204

In case it is compatible you can get it on this link https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-YT_kcekeAd0UZBf-A6T7qEJ92scNeYJ

Thanks, it works for all ARM based (RISC) models … seems to work ok for now

Glad to hear it. Works a treat here on my RN212. I don’t intend updating PMS until Plex works better than 1.14.1.5488. Not the case so far.

PLEX is really ticking me off with this. DON’T push out a new version unless you THOROUGHLY TEST IT. What is wrong with modern coders anymore? Lazy.

I have a ReadyNAS 102, and a 212, and a 214. The 102 has version 1.16.0.1226 and can turn on/off without incident. The 212 and 214 have fresh installs of 1.16.0.1246 downloaded as the “ARM v7 (RN2xx Series)” and NOTHING can be done to shut down the Plex service on these RN2xx series machines.

I’m trying to copy the media library from the 212 to the 214 and just discovered this as the instructions say to shut off the media server. Oh well. Just another crappy software company. If there is an alternative with all the integration that Plex has, I just might cancel my subscription and switch. This is unacceptable software design.

I have an RN212 Netgear with Plex version 1.15 and it would not toggle off. Then, instead of toggling it off to install the Plex version 1.16, I just uploaded the newer version and it seems to work fine but it still does not toggle off. I guess I’ll just leave it running as long as it can upload the latest versions.

So, I installed the 1.14 from the link as stated by michael_rat and it toggles off and on now. The collection is still there, nothing seems to be working incorrectly. I would not install Plex 1.15 nor Plex 1.16, as they do not appear to allow the toggle off and on.
