No movie metadata other than posters and background images

I recently had to re-sync refresh my libraries and I noticed after it was finished, the only metadata that was downloaded were the posters/background images. All movies in my library don’t have any other metadata (description, actors, genre, dates, etc.).

I’m not sure what happened, as I’ve never experienced this before. I’ve attached screenshots of the settings I’m using for agents and library settings.

Will do @trumpy81 , thanks for the assistance. Will report back.

Back with bad news.

I rebooted the router and then all devices connect to the internet. Opened Plex and at 9:45am CST, I refreshed “10 Cloverfield Lane”, was searching for metadata for about 3 minutes and then when finished, I checked back and still no metadata other than poster and background image.

Attached are the logs.

I wasn’t sure what to look for regarding my LAN settings, but they are attached.

The time and date were incorrect, so I switched to the correct time zone.

Within the FAQ page, I realized that I didn’t give the Shared Folder “Plex” enough read/write permissions, so I made sure to check admin, plex, and all the other options. Also, made sure that the User “Plex’” had read/write permissions for all drives.

I refreshed “10 Cloverfield Lane” again and nothing changed.

So, I went back to the FAQ and followed Q7 on how to perform a complete uninstall. I reinstalled Plex via Manual Install and went back to make sure the Share Folder “Plex” and User “Plex” had read/write check on all options again.

I’m not able to log into Plex from DSM, as I’m remote currently. So, when I get home, I will set up a new server and import only a 1/4th of my library so I can quickly test to see if the issue was resolved after this complete uninstall/reinstall I just performed.

Will post the results. Thanks again!

Thanks for the SSH information, will look into it.

I set up a new server and added a few movies and it still isn’t adding any metadata other than poster/background images. sigh

For the logs attached, I started updating library around 10:00pm, but canceled the update around ~10:10pm, and attempted an individual update on “Bad Santa 2” at 10:13pm.

From viewing these logs myself, the ERRORs are always talking about IP “127.0.0.1:32400”, which doesn’t match my Synology/Plex location, which is “192.168.0.2”. No idea if that has anything to do with it, but just throwing that out there.

Will do this during the day today. Appreciate everything.

I don’t have the “Enable server support for IPv6” checked in Plex, but within the LAN Settings, I have the IPv6 set to Auto and have the “set as default gateway” checked (default values). Attached. Let me know if there is a way to actually “turn off” IPv6.

I do have volume2/video/movies set, but I’m not sure about the duplicated volume2/volume2. Attached is a screenshot of my File Station layout. I believe the way I set it up, I think I do have volume2 on volume2, so I can separate which movies are on which drive/external (backup purposes).

I’ll delete all the .DS_store files and get back to you after attempting everything you said above. Not sure how to turn off .DS_store creation on network drives, but I can probably figure that one out ;). Yes I’m on a Mac when accessing my Synology.

Regarding naming schemes, I try my best to correctly name all, but some fall through the cracks. Will investigate, but now I updated my plex just to include one movie file to work on, Bad Santa 2.

UPDATE

~1:00-1:30pm

I stopped Plex and remove the files inside the Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches/com.plexapp.agents.imdb. Started Plex back up and refreshed Bad Santa 2. No changes.

I performed the plex dance. No changes.

I haven’t deleted the .DS_store files, as I can’t see them and think I need to SSH in order to delete them. I’ll need to set that up tonight after work and will perfom:

find / -name .DS_Store -delete

However, I did perform this line in Terminal already:

defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true

Attached are recent logs.

Will look into Q18 when I set up SSH, hopefully tonight.

How can I check to see if I can go to The Movie Database? I can on my computer haha

My computer does, but Plex is on the Synology, so I’m not sure how to confirm that.

Could the error below be related to the Plex Dance? The timestamp seems like it might.

Feb 16, 2017 13:19:45.074 [0xa8f7bb40] ERROR - Error opening file '/volume2/volume2/video/movies/Bad Santa 2/Bad Santa 2 (2016).mkv' - 2

I have a feeling this error is the issue:

Feb 16, 2017 13:04:30.274 [0xad7ffb40] DEBUG - Request: [127.0.0.1:47457 (Loopback)] GET /services/tmdb?uri=%2Fmovie%2Ftt1798603%3Fappend_to_response%3Dreleases%2Ccredits%26language%3D (5 live) GZIP Signed-in Token (tlburgess)
Feb 16, 2017 13:04:45.853 [0xad7ffb40] ERROR - Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle): 28

However, you know way more than I do. The IP 127.0.0.1 makes sense to you? My localhost is 192.168.0.2 (for DSM).

I’m a bit out of my element when it comes to terminal commands, fyi, but…

I attempted to delete the the DS-store files and I performed the chmod -R 777 commands for both Media and Plex (replaced Media with volume1). I have no idea if it actually worked, but I tried! haha

I also created the sudoers file and added the extra text to the file, but I think that was only for Windows?

I attempted to refresh Bad Santa 2 at 8:31pm. Logs are attached.

I’m starting to think I’ll never fix this… :frowning: Very frustrating as this just randomly happened after reformatting my drives, however, I do appreciate all the help you are providing!

Dang, I did volume1! Which didn’t have anything synced to Plex, only have Bad Santa 2 synced which is located on volume2. I’ll redo the sudo -su root terminal command tonight. Should I run it on all volumes and external drives? In full, I have: volume1, volume2, usbshare2-2, usbshare3.

Attached are logs I just downloaded. I attempted to refresh Bad Santa 2 last night at 8:31pm.

I’ll recheck the permissions for all drives and perform the clean up when I get home.

Is there anything I should be looking out for within the DSM Network Settings and the Router Settings? I haven’t changed anything , so I’m not sure what I’m looking for. I can buy new Ethernet cable for the NAS to Router on my way home.

I can screenshot my settings for both DSM and my router (static ips, ports, etc.), so you see what I see. I can also check the firewall DSM settings and report those back as well.

I performed the sudo -su root commands again on volume1 and volume2. It couldn’t find usbshare2-2 or usbshare3. Attach screenshots of what I saw for volume1&2.

I cleaned the ethernet ports with alcohol and a cotton swab. I also bought a new ethernet cable (cat6) and replace the original that connected the router and the NAS.

I also attached all screenshots of network settings that I thought might be useful for you to know. DSM and router.

Refreshed Bad Santa at 8:15pm.

I removed the port trigger and rebooted all devices. No changes.

I performed the Plex Dance again, but no changes.

Attached is the screen shot of my DSM firewall settings.

I removed the DSM Traffic Control rule and rebooted the NAS. No changes

I don’t have ‘Enable HTTP compression’ enabled.

I disabled the firewall in my router, rebooted all devices, and performed a library refresh around ~10:41am…AND IT WOOOOOORKED!!! hahah

I’m ecstatic! I thought I’d never see those beautiful descriptions and metadata again haha. Attached are my logs, just for confirmation. Ignore whatever it says at 10:50am, as I deleted the test library folders and started adding back the real movie folders.

I’ll report back after my library is back, I still want to make sure this is permanently fixed. After it’s all uploaded, I’ll close this post. YOU’RE THE BEST trumpy!

Still working great, regarding retrieving metadata.

The only thing I’ve noticed, which is a completely separate issue from this thread, is when I “Update” the TV Show library, it seems to process way more than it should be. However, I’ll do some research on these forums if it gets to a point where it’s worth reporting.

THANKS again, @trumpy81 . We went through hell and back, but we got there! You’re the best - gold star.
