No Movies or TV Shows?

Hi all,

I'm normally pretty good at this stuff but I fear I'm overlooking the obvious. The only options I have on the first screen are Channel Directory, Preferences, Search, and Shut Down.

I can't get Movies of TV Shows to show up. I know it's able to see my server because when I search for a show or movie, it will show up and is able to be played. What am I missing?

Also, should I have the picture of the TV with the dog on it? I don't - it's just black.

I had the same problem when setting up mine (0.1.32) yesterday. I was able to tell things to play on my RasPlex's TV from my iPhone, but didn't have any of the libraries showing up on my TV screen.

For me, it seemed to be an issue with server discovery. I resolved it by setting a static IP for both my Pi and media server.

First I set a permanent IP for the Pi in the DHCP settings in my router. Then I entered that Static IP address in the "Network" and "Network2" Rasplex settings on my Pi. After a few reboots, the TV Shows, Movies, Music, etc. options reliably showed up.

Try a reboot.

What is this? Windoze? :)

I appear to be having a similar issue with one part of my network using 0.1.35.

SSH in to your RasPlex and run the command "avahi-browse -a". You should see your Plex Media Server listed. If you do not, RasPlex won't be able to list anything from it.

I've managed to sort mine by moving the network connection to a different part of my network. I'm still investigating why it works on one part but not the other.

I'm also having difficulty getting the various media sections to appear on RasPlex. I've tried signing into myPlex as well as using static IP addresses for both the RasPlex and the media server. Nothing is working so far.

Are they both on the same subnet?

Are they both on the same subnet?

Yes. In the top right it shows the name of my plex media server but the movies and tv shows libraries aren't listed on the main menu

I started noticing this as well.  Strangely enough, if I open up Plex/HT on my laptop, the sections immediately show up on the Pi.  Something weird may be going on with auto discovery.

I couldn't get the sections to appear that way. However, if I go into the search and type the name of what I want /exactly/, it appears and I can watch it without any problems.

I am having this same issue using .37

I start off with a fresh install and if I reboot the pi, the black screen with those options is all I see.  Restarted multiple times, no help

Fresh Install and I am back at the first time wizard setting up again, any idea's?

Rasberry Pi B (512MB) - 16GB SD, Class 10 - both RasPlex and PMS are wired on Gb Network with Static IP's

I'm also having this issue, is there any official solution yet?

EDIT: More Information:

Running latest Rasplex (0.1.37) over wireless - networking works (SSH, remote play, NTP, etc), avahi picks up the servers no problems.

Over LAN it does pick up the servers in the client (LAN and WiFi use the same router, same subnet, etc).

I solved the issue on my PCs, I had to enable wireless multicast forwarding in my router (I use Tomato as my router firmware).

EDIT: Or not... The issue seems to have returned...

After some research, this will help those with Tomato routers: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/wireless-and-multicast.55093/#post-212076

Still reallllyyy dodgy though :\

Wish my fix was that easy, I wonder what is going wrong because not that many people are having this issue..... I wonder if it has to do with using the Shutdown selection from the menu and then disconnecting the power...

I'm seeing this issue as well with my rpi 256mb.  Multiple restarts and ip configs, but no luck.  Shows server name in upper right and will play from android client.

Hey all,

I'm having exactly the same issue. Raspley 1.38 connected via wireless all in the same subnet. Upper right shows my Plex server and searching movies works just fine. The avahi-browse command runs very long. Sometimes does display my Plex server, sometimes not. And I cant browse any of my library. No Videos, no Shows. Any other client (Plex/web or iPhone app) do connect properly.

Any ideas how to solve/toubleshoot this issue? Any details about the multicast situation here? I'm running a AVM Fritzbox 7390 which is able to forward multicast properly.

Thanks much for your help!

Are any of you guys letting your RasPlex client log in via ‘myPlex’ ?

I prepared an RPi setup with RasPlex for my brother, who lives in another suburban area of Stockholm and accesses my server via Internet. For this case the best solution was to configure RasPlex to connect via myPlex, as the IP I get from my ISP might vary, and since we have no control over how RasPlex refreshes its IP info even a dynDNS solution might occasionally fail. But the myPlex connection always works for us, even when I had that RPi here with me, on the same LAN as the PMS server. This usage completely eliminates the problems of ‘auto discovery’, so it will probably work for you as well, unless your routers or firewalls block the TCP/IP ports used by Plex.

The methods of using either a static IP or auto discovery have given me varying problems with several clients (not just RasPlex), but the myPlex connection method has always worked for me, so I now use it with all my clients (both local and remote) on several platforms (RPi, PC, Phone, Tablet, other Androids).

I just tried with RasPlex 2.2, 2.1, 2.1, and 1.4, and they all do the same thing.  They do not pick up Movies or TV Shows. I have tried differnet setting and have exhaused allpossible combinations.  Other devices, my GalaxyS2, my Roku, my other computers, all on the same, wired network, except for the phone, and all on the same subnet find the plex server and play video fine.  I have tried hard coding an IP for the RasPlex, I have tried assigning IPs to it, I have tried manually specifying the Ip of the Plex servere, I've tried adding firewall execptions, I've tried taking down firewalls internally, and everything that I can think of to allow communication, but it just fails to find it.  I've tried many clean installs and tried to customize the settings or clean installs where I take all the defaults.  I've tried logging in using a PIN and using my account.  it always logs in, but it just won't bring up Movies or TV Shows or anything else I have in my plex server.  I'm at the end of my rope on this.

It looks like others are having this issue in a couple of posts, but there is no real resolution.  Has anyone else discovered anything new?

Brian

Hey everyone, as I was just now having this problem, I found this topic looking for a promising solution... and didnt find one. lol. But I did fix my problem for now. This was the second time this happened to me and was fixed the same way 2x. I just had to restart my computer (server).

I wish there was a fix for this, or even a reason why it happens. Because it is really strange that the RPI can find the server but not display the sections. I tried both wireless and wired, several restarts, and restarting plex several times.

I would also recommend troubleshooting with minimal devices connected to the router/plex as my issue resurfaced right as I was doing some heavy downloading + ftping to my PS3. So try disabling your wifi on phone, ipod, tablet, laptop.

Good luck getting your plex to work and I hope a solid solution comes out.

Have you guys tried unchecking the setteings -> myPlex -> Show advanced settings -> "require authentication over local networks" on your plex server? could create an issue in some cases, where you will see the server name at the top right, but the library does not show.
