Hi, I have local and internet ports opened on AVM Cable Router 6660. Same issue.
No remote access. Connecting with green indicator then after short time RED with no direct connection. Firewall is switched off. Player never said Direct. Always indirect.
Hi Tom80H, thank you for your reply. Yes I had a look there but could not understand all. You note that the WAN IP of my router suppose to be the same like the PMS WAN? Do I understand this is a douple NAT Problem? So the AVM Cable 6660 is not capable of bridge mode. Actually I can not edit any more ports within the router. Do these two WAN IPs need to match? Best Regards Timo
If the „public IP“ showing in the Plex remote access settings is different from the router’s WAN IP address it implies that might be the case (especially if the router’s WAN IP address is from a private address range).
In that Case you might need to contact your ISP to see if they’re capable and willing to assign your router a publicly routable IPv4 address instead. Some ISPs will offer this but only in combination of selling you a pricy static IP address (which you don’t need).
Thanx again Tom, can you tell me what I eventually do with this publicly routable IPv4 then? If I check my logs its always the same WAN IP in my router. So even I will have this publicly routable IPv4 what will be the benefit. I guess its the “ROUTABLE”. But the interface for Port Forwarding or any other adjustment does not show that I can route WAN IPs. Do I understand you right?
Hi again, is there a difference between Remote Access and Direct connetion of the clients? Actually I do not need remote access on the server but direct connections of my clients…
HI Tom, well I access plex via the desktop app. This shall be having direct access to the media stored on my server. I do not need to have “REMOTE” access to the server. This means I do not need to do anything but playing media. I am not sure if these two things are the same. Indicator on client shows “indirect” connection. Somehow I want to Tunnel direct access. If this implies I require remote access then I understand. If direct access is somehow also possible without remote it would be good to know how. All my clients outside my home iP adresses ( if I am somewhere else and not home) have different WAN IPs . So access via the Desktop APP seems always to be indirekt. When i would eventually get the remote access to work I understand that such access would only work via browser and the mentioned path. Hope I am not to far away from what is possible. Thanxs Timo
Remote access = Streams outside your home (streams at a friend’s house or on your phone at work)
Local access = Streams inside your home (tv in your living room)
I think what you’re saying, is even when you watch Plex inside your house on your tv in the living room, (as an example only) your connection says that it’s “indirect”
Is this correct?
When you view things inside your house it should say “local” here on the dashboard in your settings
This is what it should show if a friend was watching stuff from your server at his house
And this would be an indirect connection. Is this what you’re seeing when you watch a video at your own house?
Excactly thank you for clarification. So now i searched a while and i found the Magic word is VPN. So what i need to do is to get my nordvpn Account running on the qnap with Plex.
