No soup for you! You do not have access to this server

Server Version#: 1.18.7
Player Version#: iOS App 6.11 (and Windows 10 Edge browser)

I logged into my Plex Server on my home network and I’m seeing the following message when trying to access my media using my default Home User account.

“No soup for you!
You do not have access to this server”

I recently created 4 Managed Home User accounts and they all work just fine through the browser. When using my iPad and iPhone, I’m not having any issues at all. My issue is only within the Windows 10 Edge browser at this time with my account which is the PAID account which doesn’t make any sense considering all of my Managed Users are not having issues.

I have the same exact issue when using the Firefox browser (v. 75.0) as well.

Seems to only be an issue when accessing my Plex Server using a web browser and not the iOS Apps.

By the way, this issue occurred for the first time and only after a few days after I created my Managed User accounts for my wife and kids.

Thanks,

Jason

Day 2 and I’m still unable to access my Plex Server using my (PAID) account after logging in.
I installed the Plex for Windows app from here: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app and I’m still having the same issue.

Plex for Windows version: 1.9.0.1203-00f2b4d9 (April 28, 2020).

When switching to any of my Managed Users, everything works just fine.

I’m only having this issue on my laptop which is where I like to “manage” my Plex Server which is hosted on my QNAP on my local home network and every device I use to access it is on the same home network.

I can access my Media (Plex Server) using my iPhone(s) and iPad(s), just not from my laptop.
In fact, I just tried it from one of my desktops and I’m seeing the same issue. It too is a Windows 10 system - fully updated as of today.

I can only access that free plex media from online only, not from my Plex Server unless I switch to a Managed User.

This appears to be an issue between Windows 10 and Plex at this time and my desktop is clean; I only use it to backup my Blu-rays and then Robocopy them to my QNAP so I can play them with Infuse on my Apple TV, however I convert most of them and add them to my Plex library as well so my kids can download them when we travel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One more thing to add…

I tried accessing my Plex media using Safari on my iPhone and I’m being asked to LINK it.

I’m using this info here on how to Link: https://support.plex.tv/articles/203395277-connect-app-to-your-plex-account/

However, when I go to https://plex.tv/link to sign in and get the code, I’m just presented with another LINK ACCOUNT page so I have no way of linking either my iPhone through Safari or my laptop that I’m currently using.

Let me remind anyone reading this that I have the Plex App installed on my iPhone and use it without issue.

Day 2 Update 3

Sorry, just one more update on something I tried to see if it would help.

I installed Microsoft’s latest Edge browser which replaces the built-in Edge browser for Windows 10 from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge

Version 81.0.416.68 (Official build) (64-bit)

It was quick and painless, but unfortunately it did not resolve my issue. Keep in mind I have the same issue when using Firefox (v 75.0) as well.

Possibly my Final Update…

Plex does not seem to offer any official support for paid customers, even those of us who bought the Lifetime Plex Pass.

After a few years of using Plex, I can’t say I’ve ever experienced a total disruption in service to where I wasn’t able to resolve it on my own which is why I’ve only recently subscribed to the Plex Forums.

For this issue now, I’ve used the Plex FAQs and this forum for a possible resolution which consists of me “no longer having access to or being able to manage my media”. I’m sure my fellow Home Theater movie enthusiasts understand how losing total access is NOT acceptable as we build and manage our media on a routine basis. I add several Blu-ray titles each week which need to be converted (hours) in order for Plex to play them.

It’s a good thing I use the Infuse app on my AppleTV and iOS devices to playback these same Blu-ray’s without conversion. I just back them up to my QNAP NAS and they are playable immediately afterwards. It even plays my DVD’s in VIDEO_TS format (dvd folder) without conversion either.

I’ve been using this along with Plex for the past year, but now that Plex is no longer available to me and with no official Plex Support outside this forum which offers no real help… only volunteer help like any other forum out there, it’s only fitting that a refund be in order for a service that is no longer being provided.

Although I can access media on my iPad, that is not sufficient enough as I cannot access it using any other device I try and this includes any new devices I purchase.

If you are NOT a Plex subscriber, you might want to look to see how Plex offers support when you no longer have access to the Plex service and they offer no assistance to remediate it in a timely manner.

I’ve looked at every single thread regarding the “no soup for you” issue and they unfortunately are not related to my issue. In fact, I don’t even recall seeing SOLUTIONS from Plex there. I get “No soup for you! You do not have access to this server”. Nothing else.

Plex billing states they can usually reach you within one Business day according to an automated email I just received while typing up this post. Yet for Technical Support, there is no official promise to start help and nearly a week later I’ve not heard from Plex regarding my total loss in Plex service.

For some strange reason my Managed Users can access the media. That’s not acceptable. For this reason I was forced to request a full refund from Plex before initiating this post.

I hope this helps any potentially new Plex service subscribers to look into their official support model before “paying” for something now you may not be able to use later… while still being a paying or Lifetime member.

I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad go of it and sorry you’ve come to your conclusion over the weekend.

Plex has never had Official Support. This Community Forum Support model is all there ever has been since day 1.

When customers were asked if they’d be willing to pay for additional support (subscription or per-case), the resounding response was no so management never followed up on it. (the overhead cost is just too high if servicing only a few customers)

If you’d like some help, I can give it a try by adapting from the Synology FAQ .
Both being Linux based should yield the same outcome.

This gets you access to the Preferences.xml file you’ll need.

You’ll also need the QNAP text editor (App Center)

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the advice, but I don’t want to create a new Plex library using that method because my media isn’t setup just for PLEX.

However, I decided to uninstall PLEX Server from my QNAP > restarted > reinstalled > setup media library from scratch > tested.

The available PMS version from QNAP was v1.16.6. When accessing Plex it indicated I needed to install the latest version, so I downloaded and installed v1.19.4 from here: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-media-server

After I setup my library, everything started working again… until today. I’m back in the same boat, however I just noticed their is a new version just released yesterday: v1.19.4.2902

Does Plex stop working every time there’s a new release? It doesn’t make sense why mine would just stop working after 1 week and now there’s a new version.

I’m going to try this again using this latest version…

If curious, I have the TS-851 with the Intel Celeron processor and 8 GB of RAM (max).

Evening Zero & Chuck,

I have a very similar problem with my Plex configuration. I found several of the threads that Chuck has commented on for the past years and tried everything. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled PMS so many times I’ve lost count. My iOS devices still list the server but state its “offline”. I’ve logged out of every Plex login I can think of and attempted the IP:32400/web with no luck. I hope the next version of PMS resolves the issue because I’m about done as well. I have a QNAP TS-453B

Quick Edit I had the version just before 1.19.4.2935-79e214ead and that one didn’t work either. I’m running a version that was RELEASED yesterday 6/11/2020. Ugh

Similar problem here. Plex is hosted on Unraid. Android and Roku apps work fine. Chrome browser on my linux PC, “no soup for you”.

One thing I did notice is that when opening the page, plex gave me a warning “This application is at xxx.xxx.x.xxx and is not hosted by plex. Continue only if you recognize this server and wish to grant access”
This is the first time I recall seeing this, and the first time I’ve experienced this problem.

Same problem if access through http, https, or app.plex.tv

Also should note that Plex has previously been stable for several years and there have been no changes to my configuration beyond plex updates.

lmao. Restarting my docker container seems to have fixed it. So obvious, it didn’t occur to me to try it.

same here… i just bought a netgear nighthawk cause some devices were disconnecting from my google wifi. set it up. then all of a sudden my server disappeared. no soup for you message. then it said my ip wasn’t on the network or something like that. i continued and signed in and all was still lost. i am at a complete loss of words. can’t find a solution. been using plex no issues for over a year. so i reconnected my google wifi. then all my plex stuff came up. yay, then it asked me to sign in. when i did, all was gone again. running synology NAS ds918+. i need help asap

Same here! Latest Plex server hosted on Synology; latest Plex client installed on Windows 10 Pro (May 2020 update, etc) + Dell XPS-13 laptop.

I’m back on my MacBook Pro and the Plex client works perfectly, as do my iOS clients. All signed in as me (ie. same admin user). I would have to guess that the Windows Plex client is busted.

plex is turning to be frustrating, one day everything is fine and the next day “no soup for you”, can’t claim my server and suddenly and cannot resolve the server’s IP address. I’m wondering if plex is complicating things too much; My Synology 918+ is wired to the router and nothing changed, why in hell do I have to claim it again? and how come my PMS located on the server that is not hosted by Plex. I’ve been surfing the net to find solutions than found everybody suffering from the same issues. I guess depending on Plex and buying a life time pass was a wrong decision!

Hi. Can you please explain how to restart the docker container? I have the same issue you describe and have been trying to resolve for weeks. Thanks!

Hi. Did you find a solution yet?

Log in to the main unraid page.
Click “docker” tab (between plugins and apps)
Look for the “PlexMediaServer” badge in the application column.
Left click the badge (NOT the text).
A dropdown dialog will appear. Restart will be an option.

It it takes you into the container settings, you clicked the wrong place.

Same issue here with PMS installed on a QNAP Nas not working anymore. What I can do to cancel the credentials cached somewhere on the Plex App and restart from scratch? Text Editor? Thank you

`Hey mate, have just came across this error, I was able to click the more button to bring up my actual server, I hovered my mouse over the servers name and was able to add a library, I just quickly added a tv library off one of my usb expansion drives that held a small backup of my episodes and all is good now

I had the same problem. So I logged into my Plex account online - there was a notification that there was a problem with loading my plex server securely. So I removed it from my account then logged into my plex server using its local address. It was automatically added back to my Plex account and works fine now.

It’s unfortunate that Plex seems to be very unreliable. It seems they are so busy trying to add “new features” that they fail to focus on reliability, or working with their customers on trying to identify the cause considering so many report this very same issue.

I recently setup my Plex Server again from scratch. It’s getting old, because it stops working about every 2-3 months if not sooner.

My library is over 3,700 titles and 3,200 + TV episodes. Maybe if my library was much smaller, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But you know as well as I do, getting the library back to your desired state is a real pain in the butt.

I’ve been leaning more on my Infuse App, so I tend to only look to Plex to manage the Library, but not to serve any media. It has poor performance when trying to stream two HD movies.

The cheerleaders like to blame everything under the sun, but the source. The network is a popular one. Mine is pretty in tact and when I stream using any other method, I can stream endless content without lag over my ASUS AI Mesh Wi-Fi 6 network.

I can easily get several hundred Mbps (usually over 400) and never see any lags when using Infuse, XBMC, or DLNA.

Now I just have to figure out the best way to export my library settings and all of the custom metadata, covers, etc. that I want. I do not want 100% because of corruption once the PMS goes down, I see no way of backing up anything because Plex is no longer accessible.
