As f00b4r suggest I downgraded plexconnect to v0.3, and subtitles started to work.

1. git clone https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect.git
2. cd PlexConnect
3. git checkout tags/v0.3

start plexconnect

...with v0.3 you won't be able to sign into MyPlex, though.

Thank you everyone.  Updated Plexconnect this evening and changed the subsrenderer to iOS, PMS, and it's working on all the movies I've tested so far.

With that you disable the PlexConnect's own renderer - ie. every external SRT sub has to be handled by PMS with burning the text into the video stream.

What kind of media/subtitles do you use?

After aying the update I didn't remember to quit and restart Plexconnect and couldn't see the new subtitle renderer menu item either. Make sure you restart mPlexconnect to see it.
