No Video (Black Screen) when movie contains Dolby Vision on Android

Server Version#: 1.41.6.9685
Player Version#: 2025.15.0 (966828394)
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

When attempting to play a movie that contains Dolby Vision, the audio will play, but the video does not. Only a black screen in visible. The Android Plex Player should be able to ignore the Dolby Vision and play back the HDR10 version. Please see the video below illustrating this occurrence.

Note that I also tested this on an iPhone 14 and the Dolby Vision capable movies played back fine with no issues. These videos also played fine on my Android phone prior to the rollout of the new version of the app.

I also have that happening on two different Android devices, forum post here: Bug report - Android update - Black screen on Dolby Vision & HDR10 content

No updates on any fixes yet unfortunately.

Yep, looks like the same issue. The S23 Ultra does have an HDR screen, but doesn’t support Dolby Vision. With others experiencing the same black screen, it confirms it’s an app related issue.

This has been fixed in 2025.16.0, and should be available next week. You can sideload the build below, we were incorrectly trying to use the DoVi decoder on mobile devices.

That’s awesome! Thanks for reviewing this and putting the fix in the next release. That’s some great support right there.

Thanks for fixing the Dolby Vision issue.

Now, can you please take a look at a VC1 issue I’m having?
