Not authorised - You do not have access to this server (when migrating to new server)

Server Version#: DS1621+
Player Version#: 4.87.2

I should say from the start that I’m not super-technical, so I’d be very grateful for guidance in layperson’s terms!

I’ve bought a Synology DS1621+ to upgrade from my Synology DS918+. I’m trying to set up Plex on the new server, and have followed these instructions How to Migrate a Plex Server to a New Server - Plexopedia. When copying across the Plex data directory, I’ve ensured that it is placed in the correct location for DSM 7 (my DS918+ was running DSM 6, so the location was different).

All of my media files are copied across to the DS1621+ with exactly the same directory names and structures as they were on my DS918+.

I’ve stopped Plex Media Server on my old DS918+ and logged out of the Plex Web viewer.

On my DS1621+, when I open Plex Media Server, I see a screen in the browser saying that I’m not authorised and don’t have access to the server.

When I try to follow the instructions that are linked to (https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/) for MacOS, I can’t see any of the specified entries in the com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist file.

When I try to follow the instructions for Terminal, I’m told “Domain (com.plexapp.plexmediaserver) not found.”

I’d be very grateful for any help. If you need any further information, please let me know.

Your server is running on a Synology, you need to follow those instructions, not the MacOS instructions.

Thanks for your response. Which are the Synology instructions on this page? https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/ The Linux ones?

Thank you. I’ve followed Synology-specific guidance, as you recommended, and I’m making progress. I’ve got past the ‘Not authorized’ issue and I’ve been able to access the web app. And I’ve followed the instructions to uninstall and reinstall the app using the token, allowing me to claim the server.

The new issue I have is that the web app (which I accessed from the Synology Plex Media Server app) isn’t making a direct connection to the server. When I look in the settings, there are two instances of the server’s name – one with a green secure icon saying ‘Nearby’ and the other saying ‘Unavailable’. On the home screen, none of my libraries are live – they all have the warning symbol.

Please can you advise on what I should do? Thanks.

Go here:

https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

You will see the new instance and old instance

Look at the time last seen.

This is how you know which is which.

REMOVE the old one.

Then restart the player apps (Control + F5 for browsers )

That’s sorted it! Thank you so much for all of your help.
