Not detecting imdb und tmdb-id

Server Version#: 1.22

hello plex guys,

i am having trouble detecting one of my movies correctly: “The captains close up”. I added {tmdb-} and on another try {imdb-} number but still plex wasnt able to detect it correctly.

My guess: tmdb and imdb stores this as a mini series. But my version is a one file version from the blu ray. Is this the reason, because it doesnt work? With various other movies i do not have this kind of trouble.

Kind regards

This is to be placed as a TV Series.

I created 5 dummy episodes for the scanner to grab (no special naming)

[chuck@lizum ~.251]$ ls -la /vie/qa/tv/The\ Captains\ Close\ Up/
total 52
drwxr-xr-x. 3 chuck chuck 4096 Mar 14 12:01 ./
drwxr-xr-x. 948 chuck chuck 45056 Mar 14 12:01 ../
drwxr-xr-x. 2 chuck chuck 4096 Mar 14 12:01 Season 01/
[chuck@lizum ~.252]$ ls -la /vie/qa/tv/The\ Captains\ Close\ Up/*1
total 28
drwxr-xr-x. 2 chuck chuck 4096 Mar 14 12:01 ./
drwxr-xr-x. 3 chuck chuck 4096 Mar 14 12:01 ../
-rw-r--r--. 1 chuck chuck 290 Mar 14 12:01 The Captains Close Up - S01E01.mkv
-rw-r--r--. 1 chuck chuck 290 Mar 14 12:01 The Captains Close Up - S01E02.mkv
-rw-r--r--. 1 chuck chuck 290 Mar 14 12:01 The Captains Close Up - S01E03.mkv
-rw-r--r--. 1 chuck chuck 290 Mar 14 12:01 The Captains Close Up - S01E04.mkv
-rw-r--r--. 1 chuck chuck 290 Mar 14 12:01 The Captains Close Up - S01E05.mkv
[chuck@lizum ~.253]$

It matched normally – as a TV Show (“For TV” specials / mini-series are done this way)

Hi ChuckPa,

first: live long and prosper
Great documentary, bit to much Shatner, but great.

I am not sure if i understand what you’re saying.
Of course i could create five dummy files. But it wouldnt solve my issue. I’d like to watch my movie with plex. With dummy files … well … i could watch dummy files.
So, wild guess: the first of the files is the movie and the other four are dummies? Or did i miss something?

Thank you very much for your instant help. Your support is always appreciated.
Kind regards.

I created 5 dummy files to verify the scanner is working correctly.

  1. I went to IMDB and got the correct name.
The Captains Close Up (TV Mini-Series 2013) - IMDb

  2. Seeing that it’s a “TV mini-series” (emphasis on “series”), I created it in Plex as if it were a normal multi-season show. This “Show” happens to have only 1 season with 5 episodes.

The point I’m making is:

  1. This is a TV program. I hope you’re placing it in a TV Shows library type?

  2. Naming it as it’s named on IMDB, as a TV show, the scanner finds everything without any special “force” of the ID.

  3. If you’re placing this in a Movie section, then it will give you issues.

  4. What do your names look like? Are they proper TV Series naming ?

I went ahead and grabbed those episodes.

[chuck@lizum ~.249]$ cd /vie/tv/*Captains*
[chuck@lizum The Captains Close Up.250]$ pwd
/vie/tv/The Captains Close Up
[chuck@lizum The Captains Close Up.251]$ ls -la Season\ 01/
total 13553464
drwxr-xr-x. 2 chuck chuck 4096 Mar 14 12:47 ./
drwxr-xr-x. 3 chuck chuck 4096 Mar 14 12:44 ../
-rw-r--r--. 1 chuck chuck 2806696793 Mar 14 12:45 The Captains Close Up - S01E01 - William Shatner.mkv

With no assist whatsoever, in a TV series library,

This is something I can watch

Hello Chuck,

sorry i didnt make myself clear. I did get it: actually its a tv series. BUT, i only have one file which includes all episodes as one file. This is the way the bluray was delivered.

So, what i do not understand: i have one “movie” file. How would it solve my issue creating dummy files? The dummy files would be detected as the real episodes. But, as they are dummies, i would not be able to play them.

I hope, i made myself clear.

Kind regards

Thank you for clarifying.

That makes a whole lot of difference.

There is a How-To to break out that single file into its individual episodes.

Thank you ChuckPa. I’ll look into it.

TV Show Library/
....The Captains Close Up/
.......Season 01
........The Captains Close Up - S01E01-E05.mkv

TV Show, of course, but without further ado Plex will grab all the individual descriptions and list them to Appear as 5 episodes - but there will only be one when the Play button is pressed and it will play in it’s entirety.
