Thanks. I left the plex beta program yesterday evening but still waiting. Play store still shows me as a beta tester for some reason. I know it can take a few hours but it’s been over 12… Not much I can do I guess.
latest release looks hopeful. at work and can’t try it myslef yet
Plex for Android 8.31.0
Available on Google Play and the Amazon App Store.
NOTE: We are performing a staged rollout, which means the update may take a day or two before it becomes available.
WHATS NEW:
- [TV] Live TV: add button to TV Guide inline player for navigating back to fullscreen.
- [TV] Live TV: show channel numbers on
Manage Favorites Screen
for OTA channels.
FIXES:
- App could crash during start up on some devices.
- Player: videos in photo libraries would only play audio.
- Player: ensure image subtitles are sized correctly on screen.
- Live TV: fix encoding issues with xmltv channels that failed to tune.
Player: improve TrueHD playback performance. - Photos would fail to play from recommended hubs.
- Player: switching audio track for video-on-demand would fail.
- [Mobile] Preplay: background art would disappear when navigating between preplays.
- [Mobile] Player: ensure chapters can be accessed.
- [TV] Player: keep “skip intro” marker visible in controls Hud.

Player: improve TrueHD playback performance.
Unfortunately, we believe this to be the cause of the problem rather than the solution
Will be interesting to see if this major bug actually made it into the final 8.31 release.
Yeah as @VBB said.
It’s those True-HD improvements that have been causing the issues we suspect.
From the moment that particular feature appeared in the beta the issues started.
Personally now I finally rolled back off the beta I just turned auto update off.
I’ll test the new beta tonight, but please post your findings on the new stable release here as well.
If the new stable is just as borked as the beta’s then hopefully Plex will finally catch up to what proper companies do and open a feedback thread for the beta’s especially on Android.
Then of course they would have to read that feedback.
Less critical on Apple devices I guess with TestFlight allowing you to roll back to anything at any time.
Latest beta hasn’t come through yet, so testing has to wait.
At this point it’s around 24 hours since the release announcements for the latest stable and beta but from what I see no sign of either in the play store.
Perhaps they have been pulled?
If it’s anything like Android phone it will be another 24hrs.
From the last announcement.
NOTE: We are performing a staged rollout, which means the update may take a day or two before it becomes available.
Well I mostly use my Apple TV of late.
But I’m sure in the past it’s been around 6-12 hours at most for me on the shield.
I’m still being optimistic though that a release that’s so borked and as been reported as such since it’s first beta never sees the light of day.
As mentioned though, I’m safe enough.
Beta discarded and auto updates switched off.
Something odd I just noticed with the current apps:
Beta 8.31.0.31301
Release 8.31.0.31311
The latest stable release is a newer build than the latest beta, even though they were both pushed yesterday.
Has anyone received either one at this point?
I posted my issue here Constant Direct Play buffering
I just tested 75 Mbps content which only has two DTS:X audio streams and there wasn’t any stutter, lag or hangs. I also played plenty of “standard HD stuff” (1080p video with two 224 kbps AC3 stereo streams) in the last three days and didn’t had any problems too.
Really looks like as soon as a TrueHD audio stream is in the file, Plex can’t handle it.
I thought it was my WiFi or PMS and went crazy finding the issue but looks like Plex f*** up again Why releasing a beta when nobody listens to the feedback. Btw. I’m NOT in the beta channel for a very good reason.
@drzoidberg33 help us please!
This issue also affects Android TVs, not just nVIDIA Shield TV.

Btw. I’m NOT in the beta channel
In your other post, you said you were on 8.31.0.31215, which is the current beta.

In your other post, you said you were on 8.31.0.31215, which is the current beta.
Add me to the list having this issue. Thanks for the head up in the other thread @VBB!
Player: 8.31.0.31215
PMS: 1.25.7.5604 and 5577
Shield: 9.0.2(33.1.0.301 HotFix#2)

In your other post, you said you were on 8.31.0.31215, which is the current beta.
I’m not … before I write something wrong I went and checked Play Store … and I don’t know why but I was in the Beta program. I left it.
I uninstalled Plex (Beta), installed the current stable version 8.30.2.31202 and tested the movies that had the stutter, buffer and hangs before. The issue is completely gone now.
Thank you very much @VBB for not only linking to this topic but also shoving my dumb face into the “you have the beta installed” pile
And sorry to Plex for accusing you of “f***** up again”. The beta has a serious bug but it’s a beta so that’s ok. The latest stable version doesn’t have the bug. I was wrong.

And sorry to Plex for accusing you of “f***** up again”.
No need to apologise to Plex. They haven’t even had the decency to ackowledge the issue yet let alone do anything about it or suggest why it has happened.
Agree except for the why.
That bit is fairly obvious.

Something odd I just noticed with the current apps:

Could we please get an official statement on what’s happening here? It’s been exactly a week, and neither the stable nor the beta have been pushed.
Im having the same issue. You can literally watch the screen “pause” for a tenth of a second randomly and often and then the audio just gets worse and worse out of sync. Going back to 8.30 fixes it. Ill upload logs if you guys need.
There is a new, stable release 8.31.1.31487 as of today. The notes say “Player: ensure TrueHD remains in sync.” Let’s hope this fixes our issue. Please post your findings here.
