Has anyone received this version yet?
Also having this issue. Tried to fix this in so many ways, ultimately stumbled on this thread by luck.
Could Plex please create some sort of âactive known issuesâ status page? Some brief text saying âissue was introduced in x, fix in-progressâ would be so useful.
Is there an APK for the update for Shield somewhere to manually update? Not seeing the update on my device yet.
This issue was never acknowledged, yet is supposed to be fixed in the latest stable version. Problem is, the last three releases (beta, previous stable, current stable) did not get pushed to end-users.
I manually installed the 8.31.1 âGoogle Play (arm64v8a)â APK onto my shield.
Not tested a huge amount of footage so far, but some quick tests on files that were definitely borked a few hours ago seem to be good so far! Hopefully not a flukeâŠ!
Iâm not at home at the moment to install the update and test but will report back as soon as I can.
It amazes me that Plex canât acknowledge an issue publically but then sneaks out a release with the bug allegedly fixed.
Man up and just admit you made a mistake a Plex and then apologise to your customers. I feel you would gain much goodwill with such behaviour!
Donât rush. It still hasnât been pushed
Tested some more footage. While audio keeps in sync, Iâm getting random freezes in video or audio causing stuttering. Sometimes a fraction of a second, sometimes multiple secondsâŠ
Rolled back manually to APK 8.30.2 - not seen any issues since.
adb install -r -d .\kepler-arm64v8a-googlePlay-stdExo-8.30.2.31202-c9b75f7a.apk
Thanks for letting us know. I hope the Android devs are secretly following this thread
I think the fact that those beta and stable releases that got pulled at the last minute show that they are now watching.
The fact that all the various screwed up betaâs with various feedback on how broken they were both indicates they werenât originally watching and itâs pretty pointless being in a Plex Android beta unless youâre a masochist.
Letâs face it, itâs pretty clear the devs arenât running their own beta.
Compound that with the fact that Plex cannot be bothered to explain at worst or apologise at best this whole shambles.
To be fair, it was my choice to be a beta tester, and this latest one is really the only beta Iâve ever had a major issue with (and Iâm still on it!). As to why these last few versions havenât made it through yet, we can only speculate until we get some actual input from the Plex team.
Yeah for sure.
But I assume you joined that beta after a Plex invitation to help test the latest and greatest releases?
Who knew feedback was ignored?
That said Iâm just as guilty. I should have known that on Apple devices any beta breakage takes 30
seconds to undo rather than 20 minutes to find an older apk or longer to unsubscribe from a beta and completely reset my Android device.
I really just saw this Join App Betas: Android (mobile), Android TV, Apple TV, iOS and signed up when I first got my SHIELD.
Like me, youâve been around long enough to know that when you really need help here, youâll get it. Be that from other users or from the usual ninjas, team members, or employees. Folks like Chuck, Otto, BigWheel, Zoidberg are very quick to respond, so no complaints from me there
For this particular issue, I agree with you that the lack of feedback is a little concerning, though. The SHIELD, being the very best overall playback device, deserves some extra TLC
Yep some of those are only ninjas (and I definitely do not use âonlyâ in a dismissive way) and one probably two at least owns no Android device from previous reading over the last 8 years and certainly not of the Shield.
But at least one of those is indeed a Plex employee
You can add at least @DaveBinM and @anon18523487 to @BigWheel as to why something so broken ever happened.
Itâs a beta. Feedback has shown how broken it was for two weeks at least yet the attempt to push it to stable just to screw over anyone playing it safe by not running betaâs.
You did the pinging Letâs hope Dave is no longer in the hospital.
And if thatâs the case then I apologise because honestly his input on tvOS and iOS has been stellar over the last year of two.
His explanations and clarity were the reason I bought Apple devices.
Side loading 8.31.1.31487 has solved this issue for me.
The dev is aware of this issue and has been working through the issue. That is all I have to share.
For what itâs worth, if stability is important to you, I recommend installing and holding @ 8.30.2.31202

Thank you.
Given that 8.31.1 is now in the release channel, how do we âholdâ at the version that you recommend?
Unfortunately I cannot agreeâŠ
So this afternoon was the first time I had watched a TrueHD / Atmos movie for a good few weeks, and I can also confirm that the audio track is losing sync quite frequently.
Shield 2019 Pro > Shield Experience
9.0.1
Plex Client >8.30.2.31202
PMS >1.25.6.5577
on Windows Server
I seem to get a silent blip in the audio, and then itâs out of sync from there on. To correct, I just wait a few seconds then single tap left on the Shield remote.
I really should have continued watching the movie on Plex HTPC now that they have got standard HDR working correctly.
In fact the ONLY thing missing from the HTPC app is now Dolby Vision⊠Once thatâs in, it will be the the only app to support absolutely everything > 4K, HDR, DV, HiRes FLAC Audio, Dolby Atmos, DTS-XâŠ
