Nvidia Shield Dolby TrueHD playback is borked

oh, and the “up next” function randomly playing the content in the background whilst the 10 second countdown is still on screen.

not sure if that one has been fixed yet?

i have the same Problem. with Android TV 9.1.31664 beta it works. I hope thee public version came soon.

What TrueHD issues? Need to be specific. Last beta I tried a few days ago still had stuttering issues.

TrueHD keeping the stream from starting have been fixed a week or so ago. I don’t know about the stuttering part. I’ve not had that.

Beta version 9.1.0.32117 fixed all the issues, at least for me, about TrueHD Atmos, starts playing without issues, no stuttering and seek back and forth also works fine regardless how many seconds I go forward or back.

were you able to test DTS-HD content? as one of the prior beta releases that tried to fix TrueHD issues ended up breaking DTS-HD content.

I just tried DTS-HD 7.1 and 5.1 and also normal DTS, all worked fine for me

Yep, I’ve noticed that issue for a while now as well. Only sure way out of Plex is to ‘hard close’ it with the circle button and then double tap it right after to fully exit it. I hate doing that but it’s the only way to be sure I start fresh the next time I load it.

Sorry for a dumb question: how/where do I get the beta version for my 2019 Shield Pro?

Thank you @Lush for the info!!! Now I can play those DTS-HD 7.1 videos and also use the skip back and forward functions when viewing my DVR shows. Those shows are recorded in AC3 5.1 and they usually just crash when I hit the skip back button on the public release. Thank you!!!

I got another update last night to the plex beta from the play store and it broke media with truehd sound again. I downloaded the previous apk from this thread and installed it, its now working. Ive turned off automatic updates on the play store. I gotta admit plex is a bit of a mess on the shield at the moment!

I also installed the latest beta (9.1.0.32183) and TrueHD videos generally play OK. But I’m hearing static at the start of playback - a problem on an earlier build that was fixed more recently. Is that the sound problem you are having, or is it something else?

Hi

Yes i think it was that build that it had installed. The problem i had is that films with truehd sound would either not play, or play then stutter. I could never fast forward either as id get a spinning circle and it would fail. These are quite large 50GB+ rips. Generally i could always direct play these files no issues.

I finally uninstalled 8.29.0.30300, restarted the Shield Pro, and installed the 9.1.0.32183 beta. After a dozen test files, all seems OK. This is encouraging! Even if there are more bugs, nothing is glaring at the moment. I also upgraded my Windows box to the latest Plex Media Server beta.

So, any idea when these fixes are going to get pushed to production?

I also don’t quite understand why the beta audio fixes haven’t been merged with the previous UI fixes and rolled into production yet. We’ve now had a 10 stable versions, which have all had broken audio, along with 8 beta releases containing the fix. What exactly is the holdup? It doesn’t matter to me, because I’ve always used betas for both server and client, but there has been so much confusion both here and over at AVS (not to mention Reddit lol). Some of us are tired of explaining things over and over again

Yep push beta to stable after clearly knowing how broken it was.

Get more or less unanimous positive reports of how the latest beta now fixes most issues….and nothing, nada….

It’s the Plex way of doing things.

Speaking of growing tired of it I already did.

Emby may be far from perfect but they don’t break clients for several weeks on end.
Once I port my users over I’m gone.

Have fun everyone.

Green is the new Orange.

It seems clear that Plex, inc has pushed all engineering resources to fix the beyond terrible rollout of the Discovery/Watchlist advertising while forgetting that us users of the shield, mostly plex pass users, even exist.

I guess Plex, inc had a milestone payment from investors and if that feature slipped, Plex, inc would have missed payroll. That’s the only logical reason I can come up with for leaving us shield users high and dry for almost 2 months.
