android PLEX app on SHIELD TV PRO 8.11.0.22186
NVidia SHIELD TV PRO (firmware?) 8.2.1.(32.8.435.31)
a Cannot find NVida in the private network on my W10 pro PC ( only under ‘other devices’ no login possible) so in order to add movies to the PLEX movies library
1b) I use an external removable storage ( USB_1 Samsung 8T SSD).
1c) Before that I added a 2T SSD (removable storage) with 6 movies on it after installing PLEX on a brand new SHIELD. It all worked flawlessly with the cumbersome ,manually travelling the USB disk between PC and SHIELD to add or replace movies. 2T is not enough so i replaced it following the same procedure used for the 2T SSD.
The problem begins.
SHIELD did format the 8T SSD as a removable storage. ( added NVIDIA_SHIELD folder) which is recognized by Plex settings/storage location/Samsung usb_1 drive.
SHIELD file manager sees the 4T of movies on the SSD, including the ones which were on the 2T SSD. all in the NVIDIA_SHIELD folder…
a BUT under Plex/Movies I see only the 6 movies of the previous “library” It does not see the 14+ added movies. It does not play the 6 all of them are when opened unavailable in red.
b app.plex.tv/desktop also shows the original first 6 movies and not the others,
In short the 8T SSD formatted as removable storage by SHIELD and activated by PLEX as removable storage( under PLEX settings) is still unable to play while file manager on SHIELD sees all the movies as W10 sees them too ( when manually placed in the computer.)
how do I delete all the information of PLEX both on NVIDIA and on the web (app.plex.tv/desktop? ) as if I start from scratch as I did with the 2T ssd? I have a lifetime pass subscription and I truly hope you can help me
I can’t resolve your issue, but I can mention a few things about the Shield the way I access it.
I have my Shield hard wired into my network and not on Wifi.
I set my shield to have a static IP that doesn’t change on the network.
From my Win 10 PC, I simply use \192.168.0.xx (static IP address) to browse to my Shield in Win 10 search bar. (I have 2 external USB drives). I can see both my drives and I transfer my files to my Shield this way.
Also, have you tried to rescan your libraries after adding the new content?
Sorry if I am not much help, I know the setup can be a little frustrating in the beginning.
(I moved my Plex from Win 10 to Shield, basically just started over).
THX Arkwright, I shall try yr advice as i also have a PC linked to the same router the SHIELD is connected to.
But to help others as I have found the solution.
NV SHIELD goto apps in google store and seek PLEX. click the icon and neglect the option to uninstall PLEX. that is the next thing to do…while in that page scroll down to Plex server and uninstall.
through the Google store uninstall PLEX.
reset the SHIELD hardware. it will not touch any content on the USB-1 SSD when formatted as removable storage (so don’t format it as device storage to begin with)
That will do the trick
you are back to the beginning just after unboxing the NV shield. Install now --with the attached activated USB-1 SSD with all the content and already previously formatted as removable storage-- Plex AND the server thru Google store
XX5%@ knows why, but I replaced the 2T drive with a Samsung SSD 8T drive almost 7T full of movies ( it was when empty formatted by NV SHIELD as removable storage) and above solution does.not work anymore. Plex affirms the drive is empty whatever I tried… It took me two weeks to fill the disk with my Blu-Ray disk collection In between the latest NV SHIELD update was also there. I tried everything I could find on the web to no avail
I am having a similar issue and I haven’t found a solution yet. I am currently rescanning my library. I have 2 external USB 10TB drives attached to the shield. I recently moved the shield in my cabinet and so disconnected everything and reconnected in the new spot. Now, one drives files all show as unavailable in plex, but it definitely sees them and can read their info, it just gives the ‘file unavailable’ message. If I use a file explorer on the shield and go to the drive, I can play the files directly. One thing that is weird is that the drive that is working shows as ‘Media Card’ in the file explorer and the one that doesn’t work shows as ‘Media Storage’. Not sure if any of this helps, but the issues seem similar.
