Nvidia Shield Image Freezes

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9
Player Version#: 8.6.0.20351 (e97d660)

Hi,

I have a strange problem with Plex and the Nvidia Shield TV (2019 version).

This is my setup:
-HP Microserver Gen10plus with plexmediaserver/now 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9 is my server providing the movies.
-1gbps network speed from this server to my Nvidia Shield TV (tested, the speed is actually achieved).
-On the Shield, the Plex client app from the Google Play Store is installed
-The HDMI output of the Shield is connected to a soundbar and forwards the image over HDMI to the TV.

Some weeks ago (I guess there was a plex client/server update and maybe a Shield update in between), I easily could stream 4k videos including Dolby Atmos.
However, now when starting a movie, the image freezes immediately but the sound proceeds. This happens only with some movies, not all of them. However, one movie now not playing correctly was working some weeks ago. The plex client information shows me that no transcoding is involved, Direct Play for sound and image is shown.

To check my setup, I disconnect the network cable from the Shield and connected it directly to the TV and then I started on the TV the Plex client app. Here, the same movie is working without any problem.

So either there is a problem with the Nvidia Shield or with the Plex app on the Shield?
Any ideas what is going wrong?

Attached is the media info of the mkv file and the plex logs.

I would think it would be an issue with the player/device rather than the server. Do you have resolution or display rate switching enabled in the app? Wondering if going through the soundbar is causing issues for either of those features.

Are you playing any .Avi files ?

His media info file says it is an mkv with HEVC video and EAC3 audio which should not be a problem for the Shield.

Just started to see the same issue here. Random pause and when it resumes audio is out of sync.

Have had shield for years now never had an issue before so I suspect there is an issue with a recent update on either end.

Have confirmed with Plex Media Player on the PC no such issue.

Encoding is mkv container AVC 1080p video dolby atoms sound track in my case.

Tried a reboot of both server and shield no change.

Shield Plex 8.6.0.20351
Plex OS 8.2.0

Thanks for your answers!

I disconnected the soundbar and connected the Shield directly over HDMI with my TV. Same problem, image is halted but audio works and the movie proceeds.

I checked in the settings of the Plex app on the Shield; resolution or display rate switching is off, I even tried to switch to the old player (enable new video player = off), but same problem. Additionally, I switched of the AI feature of the shield.

Edit:
I side-loaded an older version of the Plex apk (from 1.8.20) and the problem remains! I guess now that the Nvidia Shield is the reason for the troubles. There was an update of the Shield on 26.8.20 (update 8.2) and since then I can not stream my 4k mkv Files.
Any ideas what the problem is? Could it be some encoding/codecs/or whatever?

Edit2:
Alright, so I did a factory reset of the Shield and started the Plex app - the movie is now working! However, the preinstalled Plex app is based on version 7.23.0.13018. The playstore notified me that a Plex update is available (to 8.6.0.20351). I updated it and now same problem, the image freezes. So something with the lastest Plex update (from 7 to 8 I assume) is going wrong…

Plex live TV on Android TV freezes within 5 minutes. Every channel. Roku is fine, no problems, other than it being a Roku. Android TV needs this fixed. It’s the android Plex app. I’ve tried rebooting the HDHR, no change. Re load the Xiaomi Mi Box (twice) no change. I’m having issues recording stuff, but that’s not related to this. Hesitant to buy the google tv thing until this is resolved.2020-10-20T04:00:00Z
