Nvidia shield PMS ever getting updated?

@drzoidberg33 any news about v1.15 for Sheild?

Of course this wont get updated.

Plex dont have the skill set and have clearly given up with anything Nvidia shield related.

They cant even fix an music artwork issue that has been going on for months and months now.

I wouldnt waste your breath asking anything ever on these forums.

Its just waste of everbodys time including mine writing this.

Look to their competitors who have very very good support and care about their users.

Based on reports I’m seeing on the 1.15 update on other platforms, be thankful we have a server that is functioning well. I personally will not update PMS on my shield when it’s available until reports come in on how well it works. Who remembers that update that broke recording/live TV on shield completely?

If I’ve learned anything about PLEX, is that they are terrible at updating PMS, and seem to rely on their user base to identify stability issues, then slowly fix them, along with rolling out new features that causes more instability.

I’ve found it best to plan “updates” by letting others do the updates, observe for any issues, then, if relatively free from issues, then update (and pray you don’t get an unreported issue)

At least one of your statements was definitely true … but throwing all your toys out of the cot probably didn’t do much to advance our chances of the Plex team continuing the dialogue and attempting to fix the issues - thanks for all your valuable help - NOT.

Really I would hear some news too. I love plex but my shield is a little bit behind the actual version and I want the Alexa feedback work without hacks!

@NKRT I’m also a paying subscriber and am similarly somewhat concerned by the lack of progress and transparency - we are not debating that. I was making the point that your childish petulant shouty rant helps no-one and gets us no closer to a possible fix. Cool heads and calm minds working together as users and developers may stand at least SOME chance on the other hand.

Anyway we’ve already distracted this thread more than enough …

@ StephenH - yes you are correct cool heads etc and yes our posts probably have distracted.

@ Plex Developers - any news on this, as you can see there are many users including 1 child and a flaky old man wanting answers.

Requesting an update on PMS for Shield 1.15.x release progress please if you would be so kind @StSimm1 or other Plex employees?

Wow! Turn your head away for a second and the kids go crazy! Looks like cool heads prevailed thankfully

Still no status update from Plex though. I am starting to think that maybe I should check out Emby if it’s that good. I presume I could install Emby Server on the Shield without interfering with the Plex Server operations?

Apologies to all for pulling this thread off-topic earlier, I promise to stop.

Hi folks - sorry for the delay.

We are cutting an internal release today that has SHIELD support. This will spend a little extra time in QA before rolling out to the beta update channel.

If any of you are keen on testing, drop me a PM and I’ll see about sharing an apk early next week.

Point taken @JOKER357thomas, and a valid point at that. As far as features are concerned, I personally wish that the Plex engineers would put more energy and effort into increasing the stability of the current product (especially on the Shield) than into delivering more features, for now at least. I work in the enterprise software space and have learned that R&D is always a balance between delivering new functionality and ensuring stability and reliability because most software companies do not have sufficient budget for expansive R&D, CPE and QA teams such that they are always fully populated. When stability is required typically resources are borrowed from R&D and QA to bolster CPE, then moved to QA prior to release. Once acceptable stability is attained, then typically (and in my experience) resources are then “borrowed” over to R&D to catch up on new features. This is complicated by having to support multiple hardware platforms and this is where appliances possessing a relatively static and known hardware/OS environment are easier to manage…

But I digress. Hopefully we’ll see a nice stable version of PMS 1.15.x for Shield very soon

I would second having better stability as a priority (very strongly) over new features. A server of anykind first and foremost should be stable. At this point, new features are a feather in the cap, stability is a must…and I think there’s a bit of work to do on that front on the Shield.

I hope this new beta will be more stable on the shield. A lot has been changed from 1.14 to 1.15… we shall see.
