Nvidia Shield Pro (2019) Client does not Default to 4K Files

I have an Nvidia Shield Pro passing audio and video through a Nakamichi Shockwafe 7.1 Pro - the Shield/Soundbar plays everything I throw at it and I love it but I wondered if there was a way (profile/etc) I could enable the Shield to default to the 4k video file and 7.1/Atmos/DTS-HD audio track rather than manually selecting them prior to playing the file.

I’ve noticed the Apple TV 4K defaults to 4K files - press play and it’s 4K. I have tried using the enhanced/normal player on the Shield and this does not seem to impact the file chosen by default. Automatically adjust quality does not appear to impact the situation either. Currently home and remote streaming are set to Maximum for audio and video. I have everything hardwired on a One Gbps connection.

Has anyone found a work around for this issue that is not creating a separate library for 4K? I know I can choose the file from More>Play Version, but given everything in this client setup is compatible for 4K and various surround codecs, should it not automatically default to the 4K file?

I am not sure how PMS and the Client determine which file to play back. My androidTV (Sony) selected the 4K file without hitch, however, the Roku 3 in the other room also selected the 4K file (This is not a 4K Roku, and it caused it to transcode). When I asked a question here regarding how video is chosen, the answer I got was essentially;

“plex chooses the highest quality file to work from regardless of what’s available”

It was because of that that I split away my 4K movies into their own Library. However, you’re saying that the Shield Pro is playing a 1080 or 720 file even if a 4K is present. That’s counter to what I was told, and now just tells me that Plex is unreliable at making that choice. So, splitting apart the libraries was the best way to go.
