So this is a bit of a weird problem, I have scrolled the Plex forums, the Shield one, the Sonos ones, trying to find an answer, but nothing yet.
When playing a 4K Remux file with TrueHD Atmos 7.1 audio, the sound stutters every couple of seconds, for lack of a better term, the sound is blinking in and out. It is only once every few seconds, with no real pattern. At first I thought it was something wrong with the file, but it happens consistently across all files with the TrueHD Atmos 7.1 format.
Plex Settings:
HDMI passthrough enabled
All streaming quality set to Maximum (no transcoding deteced anywhere, Exoplayer says Direct Play is working correctly)
Nvidia Shield Settings:
Dolby Processing disabled
Match audio resolution, tried this on and off, made no difference
Was happening on Version 9.1, people suggested to downgrade to 8.2.3, still happens on that.
Display Settings:
HDMI Passthrough enabled over eARC
Tried HDMI 2.0 and 2.1 compatibity modes, same result
All sound processing disabled
So to confirm it was Plex having the issue, I tried a 4K demo file contianing TrueHD Atmos 7.1 in 3 different ways.
- Remote Server (Plex Share with a friend) - Had audio stutters
- Local NAS Server (Personal) - Had audio stutters
- Putting the file on the Nvidia Shield via USB and playing with Just (Video) player - No issues
I know it seems that my problem could be network related, but I have 1000/1000Mbps and doing a speedtest on the Shield showed the speed was consistent and stable. I did speed tests during the playbacks on Plex and was still recieving 800ish Mbps on my PC. But just to be sure I swapped out all the network cables, all the HDMI cables and the issue is still happening.
Any help would be really appreicated, it is driving me insane trying to find a solution for this.
