No you haven’t. You said blacklisted. Blacklisted brings a very different connotation than, hey the platform has bugs (or whatever the root cause is). Blacklisted suggests that it was a conscious effort to censor/restrict the app from the platform.
I really enjoy our little back and forths ![]()
So, “issue”, does not mean “bug”… it can mean a lot of things, and yes, one of them could mean blacklisted or whatever terms suit you best in this connotation.
Issue in the terms of software development, just means well issue
Scroll down to the section “What is an Issue”
The term Issue is a bit of a catch-all. In software testing circles, it denotes the existence of some anomaly or flaw in a software system that requires resolution. Therefore, an issue can be anything from a bug, missing or incorrect documentation, a request for changing a feature, or some other task to be accomplished. It can include bugs and feature requests, user feedback, design problems, documentation gaps, or project management challenges.
Exactly. It can mean a lot of things. I took issue by the fact that you immediately jumped to backlisting. You didn’t say “issue”, you specifically said blacklisted. The fact is, we don’t know, and until we’re closer to understanding what that root cause is, I don’t want to speculate about heavy-handed censorship. That’s all i’m saying.
I do find it interesting that Peacock was affected, though. If it is a platform issue that’s affected both apps, then how is Channel Connect getting around it?
you log into Channel Connect with your Plex details and when you boot your Shield it connects to Plex and pulls the info through. I think it then calls up the info every 15 seconds or something if you’re on the homescreen. Channel Connect then has an entry in the continue watching row and adds the Plex content. Alternatively, you can add a dedicated Plex On Deck row to the home sceen as a seperate channel. I have basically deactivated the continue watching row as I didn’t like the Channel Connect logo icon and added the dedicated Plex On deck channel to the homescreen. Firstly it shows all 35 of my on deck entries and secondly it adds more info below the thumbnail. You can also add various other things to the homescreen like your watchlist, recently added movies, recently added tv shows, popular movies etc. etc. It’s worth taking a look at. I think the free trial period was increased to a month so you get plenty of time to test before needing to purchase. I’d say it didn’t just solve the issue for me, it improved the homescreen in general. The dev currently has a new project in beta which looks great too.
Is there any new update from Plex? Its been a month since they said they were looking into it.
Same issue on Mi TV Stick, version 9.24.0.2105. Reinstalling the client will remove the Plex option on the Play Next and Choose channels menu. If not reinstalled, the option remains on both menus, but the content featured on the Recommendations from Plex channel would not get updated.
Good to know it’s not just Shield
In effect. this confirms first impressions. Google doesn’t like Plex or has been asked to.
Oh oh. Now you’ve done it. You’re gonna get yelled at now lol.
But yeah I’ve been saying this all along.
Perhaps blacklisted was the wrong word, removed would have been better… especially now i know the OP tends to take the most extreme meaning of every word.
He just got done saying the Peacock app is doing the same thing. Y’all are entirely ruling out the fact that the API might have changed or an api token has expired, etc… You guys are so pessimistic. Just wait til someone that’s actually looked into it makes an assessment. These speculations aren’t helping.
(and the way you keep saying “that’s what I’ve been saying all along” on completely different statements is comical
)
They aren’t helping the debug for sure. Agreed.
But they are keeping the thread alive!
(Cause the thread auto closes without replies after a time)
On a different topic.
That other app that solves the problem. I know their privacy policy has been posted, but i would personally steer clear of using some third party app to solve the issue. You’re effectively giving your data to another party. Do you trust them?
Agree with you there. I do wonder why that app hasn’t been impacted by whatever this bug is (or how they overcame it)
Now that you mention it.
I remember reading on one of these android news blogs that Google tv or android tv. Was getting an update to the home screen and how it works. Like the sections on it.
Either way i think that the timing of the deploy of that and the issues were having are kind of aligned.
(This isn’t the one i read. I think i read it on 9to5google or something)
Update: I tried doing a factory reset just to see if it could fix the issue. To my surprise, the recommendations started to reappear. Both Play Next and Plex’s home screen channels are being populated with content. Or, something has been patched from Plex’s end, but I think it’s unlikely.
great news bro, what server/client version are you running at?
Hello.
What’s up ?
No change on Nvidia shield.
Yeah, it’s pretty frustrating. I did read that Plex recently laid a bunch of people off, which really sucks. But that might be part of why this is moving so slowly? (or not moving, as the case may be)
Any update from the Plex team on this issue? (cc @BigWheel )
