Obstructing bands on tv

Server Version#: Version 1.15.3.876
When playing a plex video on my samsung tv, there are semi transparent bands that keep popping up to cover the top and bottom quarter of the screen when a new video starts or whenever i jump ahead or jump back in a video. The lower band has icons to remind me which buttons to push for pause, jump, tools, return…a totally useless feature since I don’t need to be constantly reminded of this…the top band shows the movie title, timeline, and has a picture that looks like a movie reel, I guess to remind me that I’m watching a video?..also totally useless, except I suppose if someone wants to know how much of the video is left to play, then maybe that timeline thing can pop up for a second or so when the pause button is pressed. I have a lot of short videos, some as short as about 5 seconds, and those bands that pop up last for at least 3 seconds. I like the idea of plex and how it lets me watch videos from my computer on my tv, but would it be very difficult to remove those annoying bands that cover the videos, or at least have an option to get rid of them for people who don’t want them? I don’t know how to program so don’t have any idea how difficult it would be to remove that “feature” but using plex would be much much more enjoyable if those obstructing bands could be prevented from popping up. I am fairly new to plex but have a plex pass…so far have not found a way to keep those obstructing bands from popping up so thought I would ask here.

The Samsung app you are using on your tv seems to be a very old one. Which is no longer being developed, because its sole developer had to retire for health reasons.

Thanks for your help, but not sure if that’s just a humorous reply or an actual hint to a solution? Are you saying there’s a way I can update the samsung app?

The opposite, unfortunately. There is no newer app for this tv model available.

Ok, thanks for your help. So they have to match each update to all the different firmware that is part of each tv model, and don’t want to spend the money required to update the app for the tvs that are a little older? …because if the developer had to retire I assume the information is still available for someone else to work on. Anyway, you’re answer was quite helpful thanks…although disappointing. I’ll just keep working on my video collection for now…maybe sometime in the future I’ll have a different tv to play them on.

The original developer for the app you have was doing it more less as a volunteer. I don’t believe he was ever a Plex employee.

Another option is to get an over the top player/streamer, such as a Roku or Amazon fire TV. This will extend the life of your TV and let you use Plex.

Thanks! Will look into your over the top streamer suggestion, although I am currently using it with the tv connected by ethernet wire, but maybe a streamer will work just as well, esp if i can put a wifi emitter/extender/booster close to the tv

The streamer would be connected via ethernet to get on the network, and then connected from the streamer to the TV with HDMI. Then you install the Plex app on the streamer and have at it

ok thanks again! I was just now looking at the roku and found that it doesn’t have to be a wireless connection.
