On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added

Anyone else with a Samsung TV have issues with the Smart Hub integration since this change?

It was fine before you made this monumental mistake.

Save me repeating myself, see this thread for what I mean:

I’ll chime in here as well now because I saw these problems last night on my Android TV and was annoyed, to say the least, about these changes and spent lots of time to try and restore what I now read is a PLEX change. I realize keeping up with major changes is tough for PLEX staff and for users on so many platforms.

I too have several TV libraries (Series/Documentaries/DVR), and movie libraries (Movies/Documentary Movies/Music Movies/Comedians/DVR Movies/Disney Movies/Animation Shorts). It is very convenient for me and more importantly IT WAS CONVENIENT FOR YEARS OF PLEX USE. Sadly, that has changed for the worse.

Here’s my user opinion, agreeing with many others:
.
1 – It’s fine to merge OD and CW. Wish you’d done it sooner. You can even call it “On Deck to Continue Watching.” Posters is fine too. It’s been said by others, the fewer clicks to get us watching is the way to go.

2 – Noting the above, users should have the ability to keep ONE Recently Added category for TV and ONE for Movies. For those who want multiple Recently Added for each of their libraries, give it to them AS AN OPTION. Recently Added TV is just that
all TV! Same with Recently Added Movies
all movies!

I rarely have problems with my PLEX which is why I love it. But this OD/CW/RA change is poorly conceived from user accessibility angle, and a horror show in practice. It’s the end of FEB and still no roll-back of this change which should not have been released to begin with. It’d also be great to have consistent roll-outs of features on all platforms at the same time (I use PC, Android phone and tablet, Android TV).

I’m looking forward to OD/CW merge and a return to consolidated RA from PLEX!

Still lifetime PLEX Pass member, and I will not abandon
unless this gets worse.
Many people don’t say it – Thanks PLEX guys for making a fine product. PLEASE keep it simple and functional.

Honestly this change has made Plex way more complicated for my disabled partner, as she is now confused about what’s been added recently and keeps having to get me to check if something has been added because it no longer just shows in one section.

I appreciate that change is never easy, but I echo many of the other comments this should have either been a opt-in feature, or even worst case i’d have preferred the option to manually set it up as it was.

I’m really stumbling trying to follow the thought process and logic the Plex developers use to add new features.

Recently, they provided an option to “opt-in” on new experimental features in Plex. In particular, the ability to combine the “Continue Watching” and “On Deck” hubs into a single hub called " “Universal Continue Watching” (more here: Experimental Features in Plex )

That’s a great idea! And it works very well. If you enable the option, your apps have the new combined hub, if you disable it, they return to the old separated method, It’s the perfect way to find bugs. make improvements and get general feedback on the feature before it is completely implemented into Plex.

This thread began, more or less, as an apology that for a very brief time the “Universal Continue Watching” hub was accidentally enabled. A server update was sent out very quickly to disable it. In the first post, a Plex employee went into a fair amount of detail of what the combined hub would do and why they were exploring the possibility of moving forward with that plan.,

The fact that they had also added another new feature. the splitting of “Recently Added” into multiple hubs was mentioned only as a side note. No hotfix was implemented for that. In fact, the title of this thread was originally just “Recently Added & Continue Watching.” Apparently, the change to Recently Added was not significant enough to be rolled back and/or be implemented as an “Experimental Feature” at a later date.

So how 'bout it Plex? Why not roll back the change to the Recently Added hubs, and make it an “Experimental Feature” we can enable or disable? We know it’s not truly customizable, reliable or consistent in a lot of apps (particularly Android) That way, you can do the right thing, and get the kinks worked out. Get some feedback and bug reports before you implement the change universally. Make sure the apps actually work with the new feature.

Good start on experimental feature of merge of CW/OD. It is an OPTION!

Now PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix the multiple rows of “Recently Added” hubs!!! GIVE US THE OPTION to choose ONE row for TV and ONE for Movies, and let people who want to scroll endlessly through their RA hubs select it for themselves also.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix the multiple rows of “Recently Added” hubs!!!

I had no idea this was a thing until now. Thanks for pointing it out, its so much better!

As for the current issue, I fully agree. Now I know Experimental Features are a thing, this should never have been rolled out on the main update channel before being tested via the Experimental Features channel.

Unfortunately, the “Universal Continue Watching” only works if you have the home page set to Mange Automatically.

I can’t/refuse to to that, because If I manage the home page manually, I can get rid of the multiple rows of “Recently Added” Or at least I can on Plex Web and the Roku. Trying to manually manage the home page on an Android device is equivalent to the door of a straight-jacket fitting room.

I don’t have any use for Recommended Library items at all. This isn’t Netflix where I may get use out of recommendations based on what I’ve watched. It’s my library. Everything in it is something I put there to begin with.

I actually do, and I love the recommended feature. I can add more things to my plex than it takes to watch them, it’s like a digital collecting addiction.

I also buy things and add them for friends and family to watch. As the years go by expanding the collection, I forget and lose track of things.

So yes, plex is my netflix replacement, as well as the whole families, and it’s super sweet to have these features.

The thing I can’t stand is not being able to put kids tv shows and grown up tv shows in separate libraries now. I need to protect the kid from grown up shows. But this latest change in plex F that up.

It’s almost like the plex devs want kiddos watching breaking bad and similar inappropriate content by making us condense everything to a single library.

While i see where you coming from, you are missing something here.
You may have put everything in there but your users did not. For Users this can be a nice feature.
Also if you have multiple of thousands of items you forget one or two :0

You are assuming something that I didn’t say. It’s my post that’s being quoted.
I said that I have no use for it, I didn’t say that I want it removed. I want the ability to set the default view to Library, Recommended, Collections or Playlists so I don’t have to change every client I set up.
It would be nice if stuff like this could be saved for each user.

Oh yeah, totally did not see the quote. Did not try to put words in your mouth, sorry if it came across that way.

A good chunk of my movie libraries are ripped DVD’s and BluRays my kids or friends dropped off for me to “Put on Plex” because it was easier sharing the actual discs, or even rummaging through the box or shelf where they were stored. Another fair sized slice of the libraries are “Requests” that I’m supposed to magically acquire.

Since I’m combining the two movie libraries I have into one, (to accommodate the multiple RA hubs) I’ve discovered a bunch of stuff I didn’t know I even had. So in my case, the recommendations from a movie’s pre or post play screen and other places is somewhat of a benefit.

No problem.
I do have Plex users but I don’t cater to them. I don’t care if they find something to watch. :slightly_smiling_face:
I do take requests though. :slightly_smiling_face:

Damn! I see what you did there! lol

Half watched movies don’t appear in the new combined on deck/continue watching row on plex.tv

Probably worth reporting in Universal Continue Watching (experimental feature)

I have one Movies library with one folder containing all my Movies (in their respective folders), one TV Shows library with one folder containing all my TV Shows (in their respective folders) and one Live TV & DVR set up.

Why do I have 2 Recently added movies, 2 recently added tv, 2 recent channels and 2 shows on now - on my home screen? How is this change useful or helpful?! At first it was only on my nvidia shields but now it’s on all my devices.

With the latest beta version for Android TV:
Still no extra information for the Recently Added hubs. (i.e. no library name)

Bonus feature:
All of the hubs show exactly the same content in the same order, from across all libraries of the same type. For me, that’s 3 identical rows of Recently Added Movies, and 2 identical rows of Recently Added TV. (I have 3 movie libraries and 2 TV libraries)

Extra Bonus Feature
Resetting the customization for the home page will add an extra Recently Added hub for TV and Movies, so now I have four RA movie hubs and three RA television hubs.

I didn’t even try to manage manually to remove hubs. To be honest, any attempt at that was a failure previously, and I don’t expect an improvement if manage automatically doesn’t work.

Just curious, Plex. Are we still going with
