Only 31 movies found out of hundreds

I am running Plex on my Synology 916+ NAS. Everything has been fine for a while, never really watched many of the movies on the NAS. With the holidays I fired up the Plex player to see what options we had.

The NAS has ~200 movies on it. In a variety of formats, MKV, MP4, AVI, etc. but only 31 movies show up.

I rescanned the NAS “movies” folder. No change.

I created a new folder and moved some files. It found them. But, still only 31 files.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason. It is not format. It is not location. Can’t figure this one out.

Removed the movies folder, re-added it and then scanned it. 31 files.

I can open the other files so I know they are not corrupted.

Plex can see the full music collection on the NAS, I even added new files this morning with no issue.

Updated to the latest Plex server for Synology, No change.

What should I do?

Have a look at this support article… does any of this apply to your files?
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201543057-why-is-some-of-my-content-not-found/

Sometimes Plex merges multiple files in one item. Those items will show a blue square in the top-left corner of their poster, indicating the # of files / versions in this entry.

Nope, all of the files were found by Plex in the past.

I did a count and the the total number is 117 movies (I had deleted some things).

Nothing is named like a TV show. One that I know showed up before was Trainspotting, which is named “trainspotting.mp4”, but is now currently not found by Plex. It is found in the Synology Video app.

OK, I think I have the problem.

Somewhere along the line the individual files lost their access permissions. The folders all have read/write for user “Plex” but none of the files do. I know what to do from here.
