Hello, I’d like to watch Plex stuff that my friend has shared with me. So I only want to install the Plex “viewer” or Player, and not the “media server”. I don’t need to host anything, just watch. What app should I download for Mac Mini? The download section is confusing.
I don’t mind if this player/viewer works within my Chrome browser, or operates as a standalone app. But I want it to make it easy to list all the movies and TV shows as I’ve seen it in the screenshots. I don’t want yet another player like VLC.
The first is the easiest available, as it simply runs in your web browser.
But it is also the one putting the hardest load on the server side, so you should prefer one of the others.
The Plex Media Player and Plex for Mac are very confusing. They essentially seem to do the same thing. Media Player seems lighttweight, but shows a warning message about being outdated. The Plex for Mac doesn’t have some key functionality like subtitles colors – what a strange tech choice. Who’s making these app strategies? Please simplify this.
