OpenPHT for Odroid C2 - Information and Tips

OpenPHT is based on LibreElec, which is a branch from Kodi. Looks like there’s some AML clock timing issues being worked on upstream from us.

AML clock timing adjustments by peak3d · Pull Request #10887 · xbmc/xbmc · GitHub

Edit: LibreElec Dev reports that xbmc fix works for VC-1 content.

How do we implement the fix for embedded OpenPHT on Odroid-C2?

I just put together one yesterday and I’m not having the stutter like lock571, but all Bluray VC-1 MKV rips the video doesn’t play smoothly… slightly slowed down.

I’ve tried every setting combination I could think of.

Thanks Benjamin for your increased help since Ned was lost, it does not go unnoticed!

You’re welcome. I have a very limited amount of time, but I give when I can.

Hopefully we’ll see it in OpenPHT v2. The fix would need to be part of the main LibreElec branch, and then be the version imported into OpenPHT.

Not sure if this is known already, but I cant seem to get HDMI audio working at all when connected to my Pioneer Receiver (VSX-524) I though there was something wrong with my Odroid C2, tried several fresh installs, but no sound, then I connected directly to the TV and sound worked straight away.

Some Odroid specimen require a little help in terms of grounding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bzX7JxgRjw

Alternatively, use a better HDMI cable.

I’m thinking about getting one of these, but read somewhere that the Plex black edition skin doesn’t work on this and only the default skin works, is that true?

Aeon Nox and Black edition work.

Black edition works but there are some cosmetic issues on my system (background on settings page, font placement causes overlaps). I can take some pictures when I get home if people want to see what I’m talking about.

HI Guys,

I’m hoping someone can assist me. I’m running OpenPHT on my Odroid C2. It was running flawlessly on 1.6.2. I just upgraded to 1.7.1 by putting the file in the .update folder and rebooted my C2. Everything seemed ok at first glance but now any video file i play, my image is distorted. Anyone else ran into this issue after upgrading to 1.7.1? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

I’m interested (from the comments) on here about using a c2 as a Plex client.

How responsive is the UI? I know what it’s like on my pi3, but I can’t find any videos on YouTube showing it running of a c2 and scrolling through videos etc?

does anybody have a video or could take a quick one so that I can see?

Thanks

You might wanna do a fresh install.

Very quick.
The scrolling performance is almost as smooth and quick as on an iPhone. A distinct improvement over that on a Raspbery Pi 2/3.
(At least on a 1080p screen. I have no experience how it’ll perform in 4K resolution.)

Thanks for the quick answer! Only have 1080p TVs and content anyway!

Reading through stuff as well, it has hardware acceleration for lots of codecs? Nearly all of my stuff is in h264 but I do have the odd file or two that uses the WMV3 codec, on the pi I have the the VC-1 codec which gives me hardware acceleration on those because my synology nas cannot transcode that format well.

Are people using the eMMC module as well, does that have any noticeable improvements?

See the first post in this very thread.

I don’t have any files with WMV3, but a BluRay rip in VC-1 Direct Plays here.

Are people using the eMMC module as well, does that have any noticeable improvements?

I don’t have experience with this, but I doubt it has significant benefits for the use case as a media player.
I also take ease of use into consideration. And writing stuff onto a SD card is just easier for me.

Hi,
Great Stuff you’ve done on the C2 dudes
i wonder if one day it would be possible to get openpht only
i mean only the package to install it on any distribution
i don’t want to use LibreElec !!

Thanks dude! Somehow missed that in the first bit of the thread.

Seems I shall be purchasing one of these!

It adds some read-write speed, but I would not say it was worth the extra money over an mSD card for OpenElec use.

@sn00p

I just set up a C2 with embedded OpenPHT on an eMMC card. Scrolling my 500 bluray rip library is much faster and smoother than on my Rpi2. HD audio passthrough works great.

However… my VC-1 bluray rips do not play smoothly with or without hardware acceleration. You can see Benjamin’s response to my post about 16 posts up. It is a known issue, and won’t be fixed until OpenPHT v2.

I tried every combination of video/audio setting on the eMMC card and 2 SD cards and no joy on VC-1. Since I probably have at least 60-80 VC-1 movies, I wont’ be using this C2 until OpenPHT v2 is out.

I did find a beta Libre elec Kodi image that played VC-1 properly, but I don’t want to use Kodi, even with the Plex addon.

I’m not sure why most people don’t seem to be having this issue with VC-1 also?

Tha worked for me…Thanks

So the stuttering i’ve been experiencing on the C2 is a known issue and won’t be fixed until OpenPHT V2?

Is it stuttering only on VC-1 files, or others too?
