Optimizing DVR Storage

Greetings,

I’m doing a minor shuffle up of my plex library. I moved the data folder from the internal m.2 (SATA) to a larger internal SSD, as well as moving media from a Drobo to mirrored internal HDDs. That’s all going fine (although I’m not thrilled I lost some metadata/posters in the process). But I’m also trying to figure out a better way to run the DVR.

I use MCEBuddy to cut commercials an re-encode DVR recordings to x265. But I figure it’s putting extra stress on the drives, recording to the SSD temp folder, then dumping to HDD, then MCE writes back to the SSD before putting the final file in the TV library. So I set up a new DVR library to at least keep most of the action on the faster drive. And while that has worked, there are 2 unexpected/unfortunate consequences.

  1. Plex decided to re-record items
I kind of understand why, it’s considered a new library. But I don’t want to set it to just pick up new items, as mostly what I’m recording are reruns. But also…
  2. Existing items are merged in with the TV library and not shown in DVR library.
  3. New items aren’t reflected in either libraries.

I’ll include some screen shots. I’m wondering I shouldn’t even worry about it, and just have it set up as it was before.

re-recorded show, only showing in TV library

recently recorded to DVR library

Not included in either library.
