Option to Configure DVR Recording Filename?

Hello!

I am having an issue with the way that Plex is naming my Jeopardy recordings. When a recording is made, Plex names it as follows:
Jeopardy (1984) - S34E40 - Episode 40

Unfortunately, TheTVDB uses the following naming convention for the same file:
Jeopardy - S2017E190 - Monica Ashar, Kara Chandler, Nicole Jarvis

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can workaround this issue? Can Plex be configured to generate custom filenames for recordings using airdate? Or can Plex’s naming convention for this program be adjusted to match the TVDB convention (as it does for The Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune)?

Thanks!

Wish I could add the Jeopardy theme as an embedded music object for this post.

It appears that the Plex naming convention, from Gracenote guide data, follows what other sites such as the TV Guide use for the naming convention. FYI, IMDB also seems to have the seasons organized by season numbers not years.

TheTVDB site is a community supported site where any user with an account can add content for shows. It appears that another user (guessing you by the last edited) has started adding content for Season 34 already. I am not sure why whoever started the Jeopardy content choose to use years for the seasons.

This will take quite a bit of time to add but think of the number of users that will benefit from your adding the content by the actual season/episode number naming convention.

Another interesting note when I looked up the jeopardy website. The episode this Thursday has a Microbiologist on the episode that has what I believe to be a similar resemblance to Amy from The Big Bang Theory.

Thanks for the quick response. I am, indeed, Big_Chubbz. I just added the last five episodes to the TVDB to troubleshoot this issue. It worked, but I am unfortunately too selfish (and lazy) to manually add all future episodes to the TVDB.

I’m going to attack this from another angle. Everything is working fine in Plex, but when Kodi tries to scrape metadata from the TVDB it fails. I’m going to see if I can force Kodi to use a different scraper that uses the same S34Exx convention as Plex. I’m off to see if Kodi has a TVGuide scraper plug in.

Thanks again!

I will throw this out there. You didn’t mention what OS you are running but if you are using Windows there is a product called mcebuddy that can do custom file renaming. Not sure if it would work in this case or not as I believe the year is normally part of the showname but in mcebuddy you can apply the custom file renaming with has fields such as %recordyear% that can be used in building a custom file name. Not sure how you would get the sequential episode number though.

Thanks for following up. My search for an alternate scraper was fruitless, and MCEBuddy isn’t quite the right solution.

HOWEVER, I realized that the TVDB must be using the YYYYxMMxDD convention because that is what the scene is using. My suspicions were correct, so I have solved this problem by adding Jeopardy to the RSS feed on my private tracker and removing it from the Plex DVR. This has the added benefit of being commercial free.

In the past, daily shows (like Wheel, TPIR, and Jeopardy) were not being reliably uploaded to my tracker. It looks like that has changed (for Jeopardy at least).

Thanks again, your replies were helpful!

Note: Prior to Plex DVR, I was using HDHomerun DVR. When it recorded Jeopardy, it used year-episode notation that matched up with thetvdb. All the contestant info would show up in Plex. Once I started using Plex DVR that used a season number-episode at the beginning of this year, I lost the contestant info becaus3 there was nothin* in thetvdb to match it up with.
