Server Version#:1.28.1
Player Version#:8.7.3
I messed up changing my password by logging in with my email address associated with my plex account instead of my user name. As a result, lost all of my original server which had a lifetime Plex Pass. Now instead of the user list I would normally expect and all my libraries, I only see user “cejft” with a crown next to it and then my email address identified as Managed account and “add user” My original user name for logging in was “kaitech01” and that is that. I have screen shots but amnot sure if they can be uploaded here… will try anyway…

ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS WANTED…
Log out of the server and back in with the correct account
When I logout and log back in everything looks like it should however it says my server “WKE Apple Studio (555)” is unreachable. Make sure it’s running, double check your network, and try again. the computer IS running and I did launch the web serve app from my applications but Ikeep getting that same message over and over again…
Use an incognito tab and use http://[Local Plex Media Server IP Address]:32400/web lout of of that and back out.
I am not certain of the IP address of the plex server but do know the IP address of my Mac computer. Is that the same thing because in my router client list I see no
plex server listing…
If you are running plex on your mac, then your mac and the plex server are the same thing.
Just as a data point, when I reset my password (I followed the directions in the email exactly), I had the same problem. I had to reclaim the server (this was NOT in the step by step in the email) and that required me to login again, and then everything returned to normal.
Just an FYI it was in the email, maybe not just as explicitly as you would prefer: This will additionally sign out all of your devices (including any Plex Media Server you own) and require you to sign back in with your new password
I did see that part, but when i signed back in to my server, everything was marked with the orange hazard signs. What wasn’t in the email was the explicit statement that after signing in, you would need to reclaim the server, after which you have to sign into the server yet again from inside the web client.
I think that’s where a lot of these “I can’t access my media after password reset!” panic posts are originating from… they don’t realize they need to sign, reclaim, then sign in again and that logging into the web client is not the same as logging in to the server.
I am still struggling and even used terminal to login to my server at my macs IP address and got “connection refused” My Mac containing all of my local libraries is apparently unavailable and launching the Plex app on my computer shows my tv content but my server and my son’s server on the mainland are both “unavailable” I am at my wits end to understand why my own server is always not available? Any further suggestions greatly appreciated…The only things I see are the web apps, not my local stuff…
Guess I need very explicit instructions on HOW to get to the area (and in which app, the server app or the client app) to ‘reclaim my server.’ As it is it shows up
the yellow caution sign and says not available. And now today, it doesn’t show up at all among the pinned sources on the left of the screen but does show up in authorized devices…
Sorry to hear you’re still having problems.
You should be able to recover your media & database (unless you deleted them).
The proper document to follow is the official Plex Article:
That article explains how to request a password reset email for your plex account.
You should have only one account at Plex.tv
That account has a username, an email, and a password.
If you have more than one account at Plex, tell us.
So if you carefully follow that article, you will do basically the following:
- Using Safari go to Plex.tv and sign out. Then click Sign In and Forgot Password.
- Ask for a password reset email by giving them the email address.
- get an email, copy the link in the email, paste it into a browser, go and enter a new password
- log into the plex website, log into your server, reclaim your server, log into your players
- return to happy plexing
If you get stuck following that article, just tell us the exact step that didn’t work for you.
Okay good luck!
I have done all of that and yet when logging in, while I see the familiar icons for users and web material on the left, and one server (my son’s) on the mainland, my server is just not there but is, in authorized devices. I have even tried using terminal to contact my server using its IP address and I get a “connection refused” So I am getting desperate as to whether I will ever contact my server again and see all of my local content and libraries. Nothing I have done changes that…
When I launch the plex media server I see nothing in the upper right side to sign out only this and when I click on the 3 dots all I get is “restore defaults” and that does nothing…

Please tell me the exact step that doesn’t work for you in that document.
To solve a technical problem, you have to give exact details.
When I said in my previous message that your should be able to regain access to your media without much problem, it was to help you avoid becoming desperate. Just take a minute to explain what you’ve done and where you’re stuck.
No settings icon?
Problem solved and thanks to Dalmus, NIbbles and dbirch for all their assistance. As it turns out to solve my problem all I had to do was move the Plex Server app into my home Applications folder instead of the main applications folder… then everything came back and I was able to reclaim my server. I had entirely forgotten that when I installed plex originally, that is where the server app was installed… mea culpa but I am back in business… Mahalo Nui Loa…
