Plex does not reach the full upload bandwidth for individual streams during Direct Play. It only achieves about 1/3 of the client’s download bandwidth. The server is an i7 8700K with 48 GB of RAM, 60 TB RAID 5, and a 4060 Ti, with a fiber optic internet connection of 600 Mbps down and 250 Mbps up. I have measured with iperf
, and the Plex speed corresponds to the single connection speed in iperf
, but when I increase the number of connections in iperf
, I achieve the full upload speed. Is there a setting in Plex that can make it faster, or are there ways to establish multiple connections to the client? Or other Solutions?
I also have this issue with 1000/400 connection and a server that is at least equal to the OP’s. I cannot break the ~50mbps barrier for remote connections. Ports are open and remote connection is fine, however there appears to be some internal setting within Plex that is limiting throughput. LAN streams are of course fine at full speed.
No this is not a tunnelling issue, transcoding issue or port issue from what I can ascertain but some sort of hidden per stream limit (even though that option is set as unlimited in the options!).
I don’t think there is much in the way of correspondence on this issue as most wouldn’t be streaming native 4K streams.
