This should really be treated as a serious issue… It’s been happening for far too long, and I’m having to use VLC as an external player which means I lose pretty much all the other nice features of Plex.
What I am going to try as another workaround is to set autoplay on, but clear the playlist manually after starting playback. That may work allow it to properly sleep after playback.
Another android client update, and they’ve even revamped the up next screen. And still the player will not allow the screen to go to sleep.
The next time you see this, can I get some logs, please? Do you have autoplay on or off?
Got the recent android plex update, and this issue still exists for me. The phone screen will not power off after completing an episode. I have autoplay off.
How do we grab a log?

Thanks!
You can delete it now if you wish
the same here since a long time ago…
Ok, this has gotten worse.
Before last update, at least you could open an episode, click on the queue icon and clear the play queue and the phone went to sleep after the show ended (and I had fallen asleep).
Now it shows “Just Played” forever and the phone is dead in the morning.
ANOTHER update. And still no fix for this months-old issue.
All three of my nvidia shields have this issue. 2 2017 versions and one stick
Playback is stopped between episodes but screen stays on and never lets the shield go to sleep. Which keeps the tv on all night.
Same issue.

I am very tired of waking to a dead battery. It drains the S8 battery and the ZeroLemon battery shell.
I am an original subscriber to Plex when it branched from XBMC. I have promoted the product for years as THE solution for media. When we lost data on our movies and shows several years ago that was an inconvenience. I have never posted in the forums until now. THIS IS NOT AN INCONVENIENCE, THIS IS A REAL ISSUE.
Two potential paths for solution. 1. Introduce a sleep timer. 2. Roll back the code change until it works as expected.
If you ask the group on this thread I am sure you can get many models of phones to test the solution.
Remember we are wanting Plex to be the best solution out there. Let us help you achieve that goal.
Figured I’d share mine as well. This happened again after recently buying a new phone, with the hopes that it would be something with the underlying device. The old phone was a Pixel 2 XL.
I guess I’ll just continue to use my VLC Player workaround.

4+ months and several updates later and NOTHING about this bug being fixed.
I gave up using the Plex player a long time ago and use an external player (MX Player) instead. I shouldn’t need to do that. I’ve lost a lot of faith in Plex with this issue.
Just adding my name to the list of people who are having this problem…
Running 8.7.2.20952 on a Samsung S9.
Can anyone confirm the last version of the app that worked properly in regards to letting the phone go to sleep after a movie ends?
Dalmus –
I am still using 7.31.0 on my phone and I do not have this issue.
+1 on the issue on the latest version (8.something)
I reverted to 7.31 using the apk’s and this problem is indeed not an issue anymore. Thank you for this suggestion.
As a person having trouble falling asleep, watching a movie in bed is one of the few things that help. With the bug in version 8 and onwards the light from my phone in the play next screen would wake me in the less deep stage of the sleep cycle, so I was kind of disappointed for such a thing to happen.
We are aware of the issue and will have it resolved in a forthcoming version (don’t know the exact version number yet).
