Phone stays on after playing video until battery is completely drained

Uh, I’ve missed this thread, I’m so happy to see a plex Employee here! Please make this fix as fast as you can. Months of this bug, as annoying as easy to reproduce! I almost gave up.

This seems to be finally (re)resolved in the latest Android 8.10.0.21667-beta

Yes, this should be resolved in the 8.10 release

Hey Dave, I think this might have regressed again, already, in the latest beta 8.10.0.21743-beta

Edit: with a quick bit of unscientific testing it seems it functions as expected (phone is allowed to go to sleep) when there is a “next up” video on the post-play screen, but if there isn’t a “next up” video then the screen stays on continuously.

I am using 8.10.0.21.911 on a Nokia 9 Pureview with Android 10 and the issue is NOT resolved for me with this release. Just like the above poster, if there’s no play next the screen just stays on all night after the program is complete. I used to think this was related to a bluetooth headset being connected but now I realize this has just been an issue forever still and that makes me very sad. Going to downgrade to 7.31 again I suppose.

Edit* I just checked my post history and realized this is the same (only) problem I have posted about for over a year!

Newest update 8.11 still keeping screen on after single item plays to the end.

Finally it’s fixed… again.

For me its’ ok on samsung s9+ and player 8.10.0.21911

I can confirm that this issue has been resolved on my phone with the 8.10.0.21911 update.

Samsung S10+

The problem still presents on 8.10.0.21911 on the Nebula Capsule Max. If this is annoying on a phone or TV, it’s really problematic when dealing with a projector.

I’m still having this issue on my S20+, Plex app v8.10.0.21911

OnePlus 6 with Plex app v8.11.0.22186 still has the problem IF there is no play next selected.

Still a problem in 2017 Shield TV… Big problem for people with OLED screens and just a waste of electricity.

Typical plex… How old is this issue???

This is resolved in the current 8.12 beta

Yes, it is - thanks! I was giving it a day or two to verify with a few different post play situations before commenting.

This issue is back again (for the third time!). :sob:

Now, when an episode has finished playing, the up next screen appears, but the next episode starts playing in the background (even when autoplay is disabled), and the screen does not turn off.

Wait, what? Can you reproduce that and get some logs from the Android client, please?

Unfortunately, I can’t at the moment. I downgraded to 8.11 to fix the issue, and it seems that 8.12 has been pulled from public release (presumably due to issues like this).

Once 8.12 gets released again (and if the issue persists), I’ll be sure to upload some logs.

Thanks!

Seeing the same thing too - currently got v8.12.3.22809 installed here.

Post play shows after an episode finishes, but the next episode starts playing somewhere in the background (can hear the sound, no video) and the screen therefore stays on.

I also wanted to mention a somewhat similar issue I’ve had since before the original fix for the screen timeout - when in PiP mode the next episode plays, regardless if autoplay is turned off - it seems this is now happening even without PiP.

Will grab some client logs tomorrow.

I can confirm that the issue persists in v8.13

Here’s a log captured shortly after playing something and the screen not turning off.

I haven’t really had a chance to spend time testing what happens currently for this issue but I think for me the next episode of a series will play in the background, but then it’ll stop after that one and allow the phone to go to sleep.

I have autoplay turned off, so for me, the “up next” screen appears, and then nothing happens and the screen remains on.
