PIN Problems

Plex server with my plex pass user. I added a pin. Launched web player, it asks for PIN.

Walk into other room with Roku. Select plex, full access given no PIN required against very same server.

Why is the Roku version of Plex not requiring my PIN?

Did you maybe add you local network to the “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”?

Each client has a setting to automatically log in. If enabled, it won’t ask for the PIN until you switch users.

It appears its the auto login… so lets get down to what Im really trying to do.

  1. What are the consequences of not auto logging in? Will I lose Plex Pass or other benefits?

  2. I have my players auto logged into my plex pass account. Everything works fine, but I want to make this change:

I need to restrict some folders so the kids can’t access them and many of my movies etc dont have the ratings in them (lots of foreign films etc) so I have to restrict by folder.

So can I just make a new user - guest access? Then use PIN on my master user when I need to access those folders?

What would happen to the status of watched/unwatched? Are they per user or per server? If per user how do I migrate them to the guest account?

If you mean libraries when you are talking of folders, then yes.
You can create a new home user and select the libraries that this user can browse, + you can create whitelists based on labels of movies/shows to restrict the access even further.

The auto-login setting is for the last user. So if you use the app under your account, exit, then the next time it will auto load to your account without asking for a PIN. You can turn this setting off which will then ask to select a user (and enter a PIN if there is one) each time the app is started.

One part that remains unclear. Since I have to create a new user to do what I want it seems, are the watched/unwatched status flags kept per user? Or globally? Is there a way to migrate these status flags to another user?

That’s correct, every user has it’s own ‘watched status’, I’m not aware of any way to migrate the status to another user.

Ok. Well given that the “owner” user has all the status… I dont see any way to do what I need :frowning:

There isn’t a built in method in Plex to do this, but if you are running Windows or have access to a Windows machine, I made a tool that will allow you to copy all of the watched status from 1 user to another. https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/120292/moviefans-database-tool-for-plex#latest
