Played from a FireTV stick 2020 (1080p)
I fall to sleep with Plex running, so it frequently stops in the middle of episodes. The TV’s sleep timer activates and the FireTV goes to sleep. When this happens, the server reports that the files are paused. Because of this, I have the server setup to terminate the connection after 8 hours (an option in the network tab). Before doing this, the FireTV would be able to play the buffered 60 seconds but then get a loading spinner because the server hadn’t spun up the drives yet.
The next night I start the episode from the beginning, but when it goes to the next episode, the player is just black and stays at 00:00. Sometimes the loading spinner doesn’t even show up. Pressing the back button brings up the post-play screen again and the auto-play countdown restarts. Going back to the episode selection and playing the next episode plays properly.
I actually had this same problem on a 2014 FireTV. Then it would happen 100% of the time. On the 2020 FireTV, it’s more like 80% of the time. I was hoping the purchase would solve some problems, but it hasn’t really.
Is this live TV or just a show on your server? Is the item still paused and you are scrubbing back or are you using the play from beginning action on details screen?
another question before hitting the play from beginning option. it is still on the same detail screen from night before. Like if you leave screen by navigating someplace else and back to details does it still happen?
It goes back to the home screen when you turn the FireTV on.
Since it used to play the 60 second buffer from the night before (before I told the server to terminate streams paused for 8 hours), I think it doesn’t actually close Plex. Might have something to do with what’s actually happening when the FireTV sleeps.
So, I thought this was more of a FireTV issue, but I had it happen 2 out of 2 times on my Nvidia Shield 2019. The circumstances were slightly different though.
Both times I resumed a partially played episode. And by resume, I mean I pressed select on the episode thumbnail. Both times the episode played correctly, then went to the post-play screen. After the countdown a black screen, no loading animation. Checking the interface shows that the next episode is on at 00:00. (I think pressing play does nothing, but forgot to check this time).
Should I send more logs or were you able to figure out what’s going on based on the last one?
not able to figure it out yet but we had other reports of autoplay not working on Android TV which we are still looking into. I thought yours might be different because of it happening when using “play from beginning”
