Playback Crash (Windows 11)

Server Version#:1.40.0.7998
Player Version#:1.87.2.87-87488d5a
Windows 11 Pro (server and player)

Plex Media Server.log (891.5 KB)

When playing a movie (The Longest Yard) on the Plex Server through the Plex Media Player (that’s installed on the same box as the server), at random moments, my film crashes with a generic playback error message. I wasn’t able to grab a screenshot of the playback error, but did include logs. This is the first time in almost 10 years of using Plex that I have ever had this happen.

NOTE: I haven’t tried playback of this film on any other devices yet (i.e- AppleTV, Roku or XBOX)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’m having a similar issue

Is Plex scanning media during movie?
I had this problem and fixed it by turning off auto scan and increasing cache size

That’s a good point. I just bumped it from the default of 40mb to 100mb and changed scanning to once daily. I will try that and see if it continues. As a side note, I watched 2 additional movies from an AppleTV in my house last night with no issues. I wonder if the issue was only prevalent while playing the media on the actual server using the Plex Media Player though…?

It’s not the cache size… can you stop telling people that. Disabling scanning is the temp fix, not cache size…

What’s the fix?
What I did worked. Now I’ve reduced cache to 40 and turned off auto scan.

It’s a little better but I can tell it’s the active folder scanning causes the crash

Did they tell you when they will update?

They know

I have not seen the issue replicate itself since I raised the cache and switched to daily scanning- fingers crossed. Typically updates roll out for Windows very often- so any day I suppose.

placebo

I have my autoscan off and increased cache to 60. Doesn’t seem to help

Update: It did it again!!! I did grab a screenshot this time of the actual error I see

How long have you been having this issue? What about your server setup? On Windows with you watching on the Windows app?

I’ve had this error five times in the last forty-five minutes. It does seem to happen when new media is being added at the same time.

I thought about that- I wasn’t adding any new media nor scanning at the time of watching. I honestly think this last update for Windows Plex Player is hosed. If it were the Windows Plex Server, it would be doing it on any device. Mine seems to only fail when playing it from the server itself (Windows 11).

same error every 10 minutes. Didn’t do this before. Plex is updating metadata while it happens, very obnoxious.

Same problem here with the playback error. I did not change any auto scan or bps or or or, So I would have to conclude an update had a gremlin in it. Can we roll back updates or is there a real fix?

Bonjour
Même problème chez moi.
le problème survient uniquement sous Windows. Que ce soit en lecture sur le serveur ou sur un deuxième PC. Elle apparait de manière aléatoire et sur tout type de media.

For at least a week now. I use windows and play through chrome browser. I do have it playing from an external but I have a program that prevents it from sleeping.

Plex (not users) should be rolling back the update to stable code if they can’t fix this immediately since they’ve had a week to address it and… nothing. It’s a HUGE bug affecting a lot of users.

There seem to be a couple threads calling out the same issue. We’ve tried to wrangle them all but must have missed this one.

There was an issue being observed on Web 4.124.1 and therefore Desktop 1.87.2 . The main issue is that refreshing the browser or app window (desktop) is causing playback to error out.

This issue should now be fixed.

Thanks for this info! I just updated my Windows player to newest version…fingers crossed
