Playback Error - An unexpected playback problem has occured

Hi,

Recently I have been getting this error when I try to play some of my movie files. This is odd coz they used to play fine before.

Server Version#: 1.22.1.4228-6000 (Synology DS1621+ ; DSM: 6.2.3-25426 Update 3)
Player Version#: via Samsung SmartTV Tizen OS - Client ver# 5.11.2 ; Platform ver#2.4

Same issue here. I even restarted the docker container and still nothing. I am able to watch movies if i play directly from the Web GUI from the local IP Address. But the moment I do a remote stream it fails.

Ditto. I can’t start a movie from the web GUI. I’m greeted with this error message. I’m running the just dropped. PlexMediaServer 1.22.2.4264-b275c4330-x86_64_DSM6 install.

I turned off my adblock (uBlock) and it worked. Then I enabled it to test it and it still works, so I am not sure what happened. But try it

Turning off the adblocker did not resolve the issue for me.

I also have this problem, and found errors in the browser’s console. The attached log files are rips of the server and console logs when the error occurs.
This is on ubuntu server 20.04.1 LTS in a virtual machine under proxmox, and it is not using hardware transcoding.

I’m getting the same issue here. Running on Docker in Ubuntu 20.04 LTSPlex Media Server Logs_2021-04-01_00-30-30.zip (3.3 MB)

I just started to have this issue today. Last night everything was fine and today I have been getting the error across all devices.Plex Media Server Logs_2021-03-31_19-16-10.zip (4.4 MB)

Update: The issue appears to be unique to app.plex.tv in some way.
1: We found an error saying beignet-opencl-icd needed to be installed, and installed that.
2: We found that the local-network URL worked, i.e. http://10.10.100.2:32400/web/index.html

I’d suggest you go to Settings > Network > Preferred network interface and select the interface enp5s0

Also Settings > Transcoder > and Uncheck Disable video stream transcoding

Another thing, it seems your hardware transcoding isn’t working because you keep getting the error below:
DEBUG - [Transcode] Codecs: hardware transcoding: opening hw device failed - probably not supported by this system, error: Generic error in an external library

But that’s a subject for another topic.
After following the steps above, do you still get the error?

You were able to direct play ā€œ2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)ā€ and ā€œThe Santa Clause 2 (2002)ā€ but Batman.v.Superman.Dawn.of.Justice.2016 shows the error

WARN - [Transcode] Denying access due to session lacking permission to transcode key /library/metadata/61
Did you change anything related to permissions?

Also go to Settings > Transcoder > and Uncheck Disable video stream transcoding

Those are both in the correct position. The thing is, it works fine on mobile and roku apps. Just not on the web app. Seems to be a problem for a lot of people too. Also it just started happening. I’ve been transcoding and using plex for months without an issue.

Something being discovered about FireFox.

  1. Playback works with apps
  2. Playback works with Chrome
  3. Playback fails with FireFox

Allow CORS for Plex.

I’d suggest you go to Settings > Network > Preferred network interface and select the interface enp5s0
I am not sure how to do this? I can only select ā€œAnyā€ or "bond0(192.168.1.xx) - I selected bond0

Also Settings > Transcoder > and Uncheck Disable video stream transcoding

With this I manage to get some of my videos working but now I get another error.

Playback Error - Conversion failed. The transcoder failed to start up.

I think I found the issue - i disabled subtitles!

I found it.

  3. Logs show it does not.

@ChuckPa How / Where do I check these settings?

The settings are: Settings - Server - Transcoder - SHOW ADVANCED

On Synology, the default transcoding temporary directory is in the Plex shared folder.

Have you placed anything in there or otherwise changed anything ?

I don’t see any folders. My installation was vanilla, I didt make any changes.

So I have been following along with the various suggestions and still am having the issue. I was able to get some shows to play but others still give the error. I disabled the subtitles for the TV show episode that had issues. No effect. Tried to take a look to change the ā€˜folder’ for transcoding and am not able to see what is being talked about.
