Getting a playback error when i click an episode on my TV app. It’s not every episode though?
Was reading in another reddit post and it sounded similar to what i was having but in the TV app settings turned on : Allow Insecure Connections to ALWAYS and Prefer Insecure Connections to ALWAYS.
I turned those on but nothings changed. I’m not super plex/synology savy so if anyone has some helpful suggestions in layman’s terms i would be super grateful! Thank you
Same here on a Samsung 2019 Frame TV. Tried everything, playback just gives a black screen. I enabled debug logs and see an error but don’t know how to fix it. Server logs show the request coming in and show transcoding happening but nothing ever starts to stream. Tried reinstalling, changed settings for direct play, etc no luck. I subscribed to Plex Pass and now that my main TV doesn’t work I’ll probably cancel it. Works great on mobile but I want my family and baby sitters to be able to use the TV without fussing with their phones and casting. Aside from Plex the TV does everything else I need so I can’t justify a Roku or Apple TV.
Oh damn this isn’t a good sign. This TV i have is a 2019 TV too but i only bought it in 2020 so it doesn’t even feel old to me, so to have to get a new one just for Plex to work is crazy. Is this something Plex can patch with an update or something, it was literally working fine 2 weeks ago
Your logs aren’t showing me everything I wanted (because of how Android apps work) but it looks like it’s burning in subtitles.
There is playback from your server.
As for your network settings, which I hope I’m understanding correctly (?)
You have connection issues because of this “secure” requirement?
If so, please continue below. If not then please disregard and advise me further (a rock or baseball bat works well )
My WiFi is secure (nobody else can get on it – I have a long, tough, password).
Because of this, I’m comfortable with setting the app to allow insecure connections on the local network. (If someone can see what I’m streaming, on my home LAN, to my tv, I got bigger problems to worry about; true?)
In PMS, Secure Connections should be “Preferred”.
In my home, I never use “ALWAYS” or “REQUIRED”. I “Allow insecure connections on LAN”
Just a follow up on my situation, seems the problem existed between the keyboard and chair. I had Plex deployed in a kubernetes cluster and it seemed to work great aside from this issue. I tried a bunch of different things but couldn’t get it to work.
Yesterday I decided to do a fresh install on a Ubuntu Desktop machine I have (not a VM) and everything immediately started working. Even with secure connections enabled. No idea why my k8s version wasn’t happy but I suspect something about Plex thinking it’s on a different network or possibly something with Traefik.
