Mod Edit: Formatting log file. @FordGuy61

This message appears when Plex needs to transcode the video, but transcoding is disabled.

You have disabled video transcoding, and Plex believes it needs to transcode the video.

Suggestions:

  • In Plex Web Quality, set Home Streaming = Use recommended settings.
  • In Plex Media Server Transcoder settings, uncheck “Disable video stream transcoding.”
  • In Plex Media Server Transcoder settings, specifically pick the Hardware transcoding device, do not use Auto.

Then try to play the video.

Plex may still need to transcode the video. I do not know if Plex Web can play 60fps HEVC video.

You can also try using Plex Desktop instead of Plex Web. It is a more powerful client, able to direct play most media.

If you still have problems playing the video, monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing + Expanded View. It will show if Plex is transcoding the video or audio. It will also show if the connection is local, remote, or indirect.

i tried your setting , still have problem…
so i uninstalled 1.41.0.8992 and install 1.31.3.6868 but
unfortunately unsuccessful… plex keeps stopping…

Answered in your other thread. Stay on a 1.40+ release due to database compatibility issues.

Reinstall PMS 1.41.0.8992.

Try to play one of the troublesome videos.

If it plays, monitor playback via Plex Dashboard as described above. Take a screenshot and attach if possible.

If playback fails, then pull a set of server log files and attach to the thread.

Also mention any error messages that appear onscreen.

FYI, Firefox does not support HEVC video, so Plex will have to transcode if you play HEVC in FireFox. Chrome, Edge, and Safari support HEVC video.

plex1
plex web 4.136.1 (screenshot) plays hevc very well.

but 4.139.0 can’t play. “Playback Error”

i tested something. After connect to app.plex.tv all browsers couldn’t play hevc.
But before connect to app.plex.tv, chrome, firerox, edge all browsers can play hevc.
i don’t know at all.
also updated to 1.41.0.8992 (plex media server synology dsm 7) was not able to play hevc.
really weird.

reinstalled PMS 1.41.0.8992

Still Playback Error

“This server is not powerful enough to convert video.”

Plex Media Server Logs_2024-09-26_00-34-41.zip (1.5 MB)

Have you unchecked the box for Disable video stream transcoding in Settings → Transcoder? If not, please do so.

The log files did not capture any attempt at playback.

I’m running out of ideas. Using Plex Web 139 (app.plex.tv) in Chrome on my PC, I can direct play HEVC 8-bit video without any problems.

Not sure why it is not working for you.

Try clearing the cache in Chrome.

  1. Go to chrome://settings/privacy and select Delete Browsing Data
  2. Select Advanced tab
  3. Select Cached Images and Files. Do not select other items…
  4. Click Delete Data.

Then quit Chrome and relaunch.

See if that helps with playback.

If you still have the problem, try using a private/incognito browser window. That will bypass any extensions that might get in the way.

I tried both deleting cache and private browser.
But not working. Same “Playback error”.
