"Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost"

Same problem, please fix this Plex as the list of issues is already massive enough as it is!

Bought an H96 Pro. Added Plex. Tried to play a movie with DTS sound. Got the above error.
Disabled the audio pass-through. Now I can play the movie but NO SOUND… Heeeelp…

All other apps work without issue on my FireTV (3rd gen). I can even stream Plex to my Android phone without issues but Plex on the FireTV freezes saying that the server isn’t powerful enough to stream the video constantly.

I know it is powerful enough as transcoding the same movie to my other devices works fine.

the same here too; any reaction from the developers please?

I’ve hit the same exoplayer wall. Downgraded to 6.12 and everything works perfect.

Has anybody tried 6.15.2 on the fire stick? I noticed that my Kindle fire tablet and phone app have updated to this version. I’ve installed, but not used, this version. I don’t know if my Fire Stick is updated yet.

I’ve noticed that on my phone and tablet, since the upgrade to ExoPlayer v2, I cannot direct play 1080p HEVC 10bit content. This worked just fine with ExoPlayer v1 on Plex.
Strangely enough, my Shield TV still works. I figured this would be fixed fairly quickly, but it’s been a couple of months at this point…

Bwahahaha!

my solution to this issue on my newest gen fire tv box is as follows…
uninstall the current version
install aptoide tv
install plex version 6.12 from aptoide
make sure that auto updates are turned off so that amazon doesnt try to update the app

works like a charm

That error typically means the video player ran into a file that it couldn’t play. Try lowering the quality to force it to transcode. If that works then it is something with your file.

If you can make a short sample file, verify the same causes the same problem, then share that sample with me, I can pass it along to the team to see if they can get around the problem.

I get the same message every time I try to play a large file from my library. Large file meaning 2GB or larger.

But in my case, if I tap the Retry button on the message, it would start playing just fine.

This is with a TCL 55USX2 TV.

Hello,
I have been having this problem too. I tried dropping to 720 instead of 1080 but it didn’t fix anything. I really liked Plex, but if I can’t get it to work on my Amazon Fire TV then I have to stop whole the Plex Pass thing. There are literally so many posts on this I can’t get through them all. This seems the most closely associated with mine, so I will try to post here and see where we are on this issue. It stops and says Plex connection to the server stopped. Retry doesn’t work. I have to cancel, then go back in and restart from where I left off. But then it happens again. About every 5-10 min it happens. Plex is unusable to me on my Amazon Fire TV. But it works fine on my mobile devices (iPhone and iPad, MacBook Pro). I can send logs if someone can help! I am on the latest version.

Thanks for the response. No intent on reducing quality/transcoding. I’m only looking at Direct Play right now as an option. The instant/instance when it is caused is not consistent and is across various files. Ie. replaying the section of the file over and over does not always trigger the issue. Same behavior to nushydude’s comment above.

Example file details:
MKV
Video:
H.264 - MPEG 4 - AVC (part 10) (avc-1)
23.976… frame rate
Audio:
DTS-HD MSTR
Subtitles:
On - PGS
10.11 GB file @ 47.06 minutes

@dcplus14, I’m not sure what MovieFan.Plex is talking about since this whole thread is full of people having the same issue and has nothing to do with the files, but with the client. The solution, like all of the other recent problems, is to downgrade to 6.12 by sideloading it and then turn off auto updates.

does anyone have the link to the FireOS version of plex 6.12? I only find the googleplay linked under plex-annoucements.

I understand you don’t want to transcode all the time. This was meant as a test.

I probably should have quoted the exact log line. My response was specific to this:

05-16 06:30:40.618 e: [Video Player] A recoverable error occurred while attempting to play: /library/metadata/78499.

Ah, I see, I thought you were referring to the bolded “Playback has stopped” line. My apologies.

As I’ve previously mentioned, that “Playback has stopped” error can be caused by many things, which is why I ask for logs so I can see the specific cause (if it’s shown in the log). In the case above, I suspect the error was caused by a bad file or a file that the player could not read. For the latter we would need a sample to identify the problem.
