I’ve noticed that Plex has released a version 7.0.3 that has been installed on my phone. Has anyone updated the FireStick?
I updated but now will downgrade back to 6.12 due to the same error being discussed on this thread.

Thanks for taking one for the team! I really wish they would fix this.
just dropping my 2c here, my Shield TV gives me this error every 5-10min or so. I have reinstalled plex. Oddly it happens much less when streaming from Plex Cloud. The Shield TV is supposedly able to direct play almost everything, so i’m not sure why transcoding helps. Especially since direct play works for 5-10 minutes.
I have had this issue on and off for some time and now its back again. I think the issue is about transcoding on the server. The transcoder is not sending a stream to the client that it “likes” and so throws errors. This is nothing to do with a lost connection. What I see in the client logs is that the client does not like what is being sent to it from the server and doesn’t ack the stream, the server doesn’t think the client is there and stops the transcoder process and then the client thinks the server dropped from under it and throws the error we are seeing on the screen.
I am running a MiBox Android TV running v6.0.1 and the Plex app v7.0.3.5022. My server is running v1.13.2.5154

My issue is mostly around pulling streaming content via the plugins like Fox News as an example. My pre-rendered content in my libraries works fine and I am passing DVR content through TVHeadend and it works fine.
Still having this issue on amazon fire stick/tvs…
I’m about to move away from plex at this point. Zero actual support. 208 posts about the same issue… zero comments from the devs. Paying for plex pass is becoming harder and harder to justify.
Can confirm that the new Fire TV Cube also has this issue. Files that play just fine on a really janky install of PMP on Linux, transcode or direct play, throw this error on the Fire TV. I also encounter it seemingly at random when trying to watch live TV from the same device.
Pixel 2 XL here, same issue, using local files (synced from my Plex server) and I’m on Airplane mode - which means the error message isn’t describing the issue correctly…
Side-loaded 6.12; all issues resolved. This should not be the long-term fix, clearly.
Side loaded 6.12 what? Android TV?
Version 6.12 of the Plex client for FireTV. Scroll up a bit; there are instructions on how to do it. Just remember to disable automatic updates.
I just wanted to share a solution with others who are also experiencing the “Playback has stopped, the connection to the server is lost” problem on Android TV Devices.
I have a MX Q Pro 4k android tv box. Was getting the error and nothing would work. I even sideloaded the older version of Plex, 6.12 and still no luck.
So I uninstalled the old Plex for Android app. Installed the latest and greatest. ( Of course it does not work after the install). I also installed VLC Media Player from Google Play Store.
1… Launch Plex
2… Go to “Settings”
3…Go to “Advanced”
4…Select “Player”
5…Select “Use External Player” Confirm Yes to the “Are You Sure?” question.
6…Back out of everything and go back to the main menu and select a movie to play.
7… Once prompted select your new default media player to use instead of the Plex player. In my case, “VLC”.
This worked wonderfully.
I am playing 1080p MKVs with subtitles flawlessly on our living room TV.
I hope this helps others.
Joey
Hi
You do not have the external player option when using Android TV’s \ Shield version of Plex. That option is only available when using Android mobile for example on a smartphone. Thanks

I am using an Android TV device, not a tablet or smartphone. I stated as such in my post… I am using an Android TV MX Q Pro 4k TV box that plugs into my television via hdmi.
Since the menu options may only be available in Mobile Mode and switching from TV mode is not an option. One solution would be to uninstall Plex and reinstall it on the Android TV Device. When prompted to switch to TV mode after the reinstall, just select Mobile Mode instead. That way you can watch movies again. Obviously in TV mode nothing is currently working so what is there to lose?
I can confirm that switching back to version 6.12 works.
BTW! I tried to use external player (to avoid transcoding) but after turning that option on I’m not presented with a list of players to choose from when playing a video. Plex just starts to play it (despite I turned on “External player”).
Is this works only if I’ve activated the app? ('Cause I haven’t)
I’m on an Essential Phone 1 and sideloading 6.12 solved this issue for me. As others posted, even with a synced file, synced content preferred, and in offline mode, I’d see this server error message.
It seems like only 1 video that seems to work on all other devices (chrome, plex mobile, etc) but wont play on the Shield for some reason. It starts on the first frame, and is stuck at 0:00. When I try to fast forward it gives me an error saying that Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost.
And for the record ive used videos from this source for months prior, not sure why this started to happen all of a sudden last few weeks.
Any ideas? Is sideloading the only solution - and how do you do it on the shield?
It was stated before that logs would be needed to investigate. Downgrading would not help get the issue understood and resolved
Suggest ensuring debug logging is enabled
Restart the server and client
reproduce the problem and get logs from the plex client app and the plex media Server
Also providing the media info xml obtained from plex web would help as well

It’s not a solution; it’s a workaround. This thread has been open since February, and the issue known since before that. While you’re busy parsing the hundreds of posts that have provided logs already, the rest of us need to be able to deploy a product that works. This is what 6.12 allows us to accomplish.
