I’ve started getting this “Playback has stopped because connection …” errors now along with the app crashing out when trying to play content and errors of the server not being able to transcode. Everything was workign fine, nothings changed on the server side. Using a Minix NEO U9-H android box.
Out of curiosity, I get this issue with both of my Shields. Both are on WiFi. Does anyone using Ethernet have these issues?
I have been using Ethernet with both my shields exclusively and have not seen this issue.
Yup seriously. Latest everything, even beta on the plex player and servers. Local server running on synology nas. Also have server setup on shield as backup.
No, this happens on 4K content as well.
Interested in following this up and comparing logs.
Is the Plex for Kodi product or PlexConnectKodi ?
Could you look into the diagnostics / logs available and see if you can get a set of logs from both the server and the client for a failure similar to the Plex Android TV app failures
I was having this same issue no matter what I tried. But after installing the Plex Add-in via Kodi 17.6, direct play is playing beautifully again! This is on a Matricom G-Box Q with Android 5.1.1.
Hopefully Plex takes a look at this issue. Plex used to be my go-to but recently issues from Plex to Chromecast and now Plex on Android issues just aren’t what Plex quality used to be.
Agree. I now use either Kodi with the Plex add-on or Mr Mc both of which play and fast forward without hitting CONSTANT error messages. Just got sick and tired of trying to fathom “OK Plex, what is it THIS time?”. Have binned the Plex app from the Shield for now, life’s too short!
I will thank everyone to stay on topic and keep their comments both mature and courteous
If you’ve made a change in which video playback solution you use, Is there any need to continue the discussion here?
Now,
How can I be of help?
I get these logs:

@ChuckPa Probably not. But I have no problem providing the required info to those wishing to resolve the issue for the benefit of other users. I have posted the problem on the Nvidia Shield forums who have asked for the logs indicating they are working with Plex to resolve the problems. Seems more benefit (and dare I say they seem more interested) to provide the info to Nvidia rather than to the outfit I paid for Plex.
If the exoplayer is crashing, would need a sample file that gives rise to this so we can try to reproduce the problem - media info xml and associated server logs would help in establishing the playback options used
I ended up switching to the built-in player and it works fine. I don’t see a reason to use ExoPlayer since it’s so unstable. It’s also illegal to send the file that reproduces the issue since it’s a copyright issue. So there’s no real feasible way to help the Plex developers out with an MVCE.
I get the issue with this plugin every time I try to play any file, I switched to the older Plex client that does not use exo player and it works fine, also works fine on the iOS app but i can’t play anything using the latest client on my shield or firestick.
You will need a UK IP to use this plugin…
I am not sure what the rules are about having a short clip sample from the file that reproduces the error. And the clip would be privately shared for investigation purpose only
Sorry to hear that. There are two separate issues that is affecting nVidia Shield users.
One is an android issue where a spurious end of file is detected by ffmpeg and for this extra diagnostics have been added and the evidence is being looked into.
The second appears to arise when hardware acceleration is enabled and that manifests itself in failures with the nVidia Shield running low on memory when the transcoder process starts. This is being looked into by our server team and nVidia team
Yes it is for server running on the shield
Thank you for the offer, You provided a lot of diagnostics already. There is a development build of the app with extra diagnostics that is being used internally to look into the problem
My very first post on this forum. I am having this problem as well. Here is what I am seeing:
My main use case is the DVR function and the sole reason to get plex pass. My setup is a Shield as the server and can also be the client or a Sony Bravia TV Android client which is important here. If I use the Shield as the client, I have no problems. If I use the Sony TV client, I have the error. Not always. When using the FF it does it randomly. The Shield client does not go over the network, direct connected via HDMI. The Shield and TV are both hard wire Ethernet. Both clients are 7.7.2.7701.
The reason I want to use the TV client Vs Shield is to get an unconverted feed to the Sony so it can do all the upscaling to 4K. If I use the Shield, it must at minimum playback at 1080P, so as an example of a 720P recording: 720P->1080P Shield->HDMI->Sony upscale to 4K. With Sony as client 720P->network->Sony upscale to 4K, Single upscale vs 2 and the Sony does a better job. In both case it is direct play of the mpeg2 ts file. When I’m using the DVR playback it is often “live” playback where I am playing a recording before it is finished so I can skip by commercials. I did try after recording finised and have same problem.
Any suggestions?
