I have installed 6.4.1.1644 and have been testing over the last couple of days.
The error “The Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex media server has been lost” has stopped but it still crashes back to the pre play screen mid way through shows.
Just wondering how you have been going on this version?
Well this is interesting, based on the fact the error seemed to be connected with the audio.
I went into settings of the T95z box , under sound was an option for surround sound with 3 settings…Auto / Always / disable.
I’ve set it to always and I’m now able to play the movies that previously gave the error. Seems to have done the trick.
This happens to me only when loading my drone videos, which are 4K .mov files
Windows 10 server, FireTV Cube client. The files play fine when viewing in plex from Windows 10, which is the server.
sa2000, is this problem Android PMS or client related? Im asking for a specific reason. My setup is an Nvidia Shield PMS and client and I also have a Sony Android TV client. If I use the Shield client, I have very little trouble. If I use the Sony TV Android client (they are both same version), lots of problems. Unusable if I use the FF/REW. Major difference is Shield is direct HDMI and TV is over network.
For various reason Im considering moving from the Shield to a mini PC setup. Maybe a NUC. If I went that way, I would be using the Android client on the TV. If I would have the same issue as I do with the PMS on the Shield, that idea is a non starter.
I found this thread Googling the other day trying to determine all of a sudden why my Mi Boxes (I have 4 of them) starting giving this error playing most of my videos recently. It must be a new Android TV app update released in the last few days.
I have had years with this boxes and never had a Plex issue (ok well Plex playback of 4K and HD audio, but that’s another story)
I will post this as a solution to those that find this thread like me.
TLDR…
To fix my Plex playback on Mi Box, I had to go to system settings - audio - switch it from PCM to auto.
I am getting the same error but only on specific films using Andriod TX3 mini device using latest version of plex app 1.79 for andriod from google playstore. I disabled Audio pass through and the problem movies played but with no audio , some of the movies where direct play and some where transcoded, audio format was AC3 for all of them, so im presuming this is a bug with exoplayer 2 ? I lowered H264 as well to below 5.1 i can retrieve the log files if necessary.
I had exact same problem with my T95z android box, my solution is a few replys back, may work for you. This issue as been ongoing for over 12 month so could be a short term fix for you.
The other way round was to use Kodi with the Plex add-on, everything played fine then with no alterations
ive pinned the issue more now its all audio that is direct, the video plays with no audio, if i enable audio passthrough i get the playback has been stopped due to the connection being lost from the media server. films that have audio that are transcoded play fine, there seems to be more films that are not playing audio due to the audio being sent directly. ill try the addon for kodi. This must be a bug with exoplayer 2/ new version of plex for direct audio
I just found out…
If I change the local playback quality (in the FireTV 4k) to 12Mbps:
Every movie, I was not able to play, is suddenly playing !? ← I have to correct this: Some movies…!
If it is set to 20Mbps or Maximum the same movie does not play !?
Can somebody else please try this!
P.S.: I just bought the ethernet adapter for the FireTV Stick 4k, so I am now connected via 100MBit LAN and not via WLAN anymore. Behaviour stays the same!
I have an update apparantly the arm logic chipset isnt capable of playing a direct audio in ac3 format ive tried an earlier version of plex still the same. As most of the streams i watch on plex are in ac3 format and direct i get no audio. If i enable audio passthrough it will not connect to the server the only streams that work perfect and transcoded streams with transcoded audio. I tried to install kodi that couldnt connect to the repo ill try again. Would there be a way for the exoplayer to br setup with a bug fix or update so a user could set it to automatically transcode the audio. Otherwise my android box is useless as i suppose a lot of others are too. Its a hardware compatibility issue, so if anyones devices has this am logic chipset s905w, s905x your going to be in the boat as me no audio on a direct stream for ac3. Can the plex development team provide a work around? Not going to be easy when it doesnt support the format thats why ive suggested if the exoplayer could transcode the ace audio instead.
For Plex DVR recordings from my HdHomerun I have been setting the max streaming speed to 4Mb/s which allows them to play ok on the fire stick 4K. My nvidia shield plays them back fine and uses the same Android client I think so it may be hardware related on the fire stick 4K.
At least you guys can play your stuff. My fire stick app won’t connect to my media server unless I allow remote access as if the stick was on a different network despite the fact that they’re in the same network. And when I watch stuff with remote access, it stutters and sometimes even stops.
And with remote access only, I can’t use Kodi and have to use the atrociously ugly Plex UI…
