Playback Terminated. Conversion failed. The transcoder process crashed

How are you installing Plex now? Recommend keeping a few of the older versions around for cases like this.

Meta data is left untouched unless you purge your install so to downgrade.

Uninstall with: sudo dpkg -r plexmediaserver
Install older version: sudo dpkg -i plexmediaserver(what ever you downloaded)

I’m having the same issue. Pretty much every movie and show crashes a few minutes before the end. The worst part is the watched status changes to watched, so I have to fast forward through the entire movie/show to get back to where it crashed, and even then it sometimes crashes again.

Ubuntu / i5-4690k / Quicksync HW transcoding

Roku Ultra 10.5.0 build 4208-C2

Currently PMS 1.25.3.5385 but it has persisted through a few updates.

Switched to using Emby for now. This bug completely destroys the experience of trying to watch anything, crashing right in the most climactic part of the ending.

Thanks for the recommendation and instructions. I’ll will keep older versions moving forward. However, I typically delete them when I’m finished installing. So I still need to find a download.

If anyone can provide a link it would really help. Thank you.

Dude!! Thank you!!

If anyone here is using a Plex docker container on Unraid and is having trouble with rolling back to an earlier version, I figured I’d post my solution here in hopes that I can help someone else with this issue:

I use the “linuxserver/plex” repo from Community Apps, and in the “Repository” field on the “Edit Container” page, you can just add onto the URL to specify a version listed on here.

For example, in the “Repository” field, instead of just “lscr.io/linuxserver/plex”, I have “lscr.io/linuxserver/plex:1.24.5.5173-8dcc73a59-ls85” so that the container specifically uses the docker image for Plex Media Server 1.24.5.5173.

This has resolved the “transcoder crashed” issue for now until either the Roku app or Plex Media Server (or both) hopefully get updated soon to resolve this.

That is really interesting but I am using the plexinc/pms-docker repository. I was curious how anyone does this though.

Here is how I did it with the plexinc/pms-docker repo on Unraid:

So is this fixed in today’s update?

It would appear so…server side at least. I’m still waiting for client side fixes or to verify if they’re needed.

Do we know how often the Docker images on dockerhub update? I see it’s still saying the last push is 8 days ago.

Any word yet on the required Roku client version?

Nope, and I haven’t seen the problem be fixed, honestly. I"m running on the latest plex pass server and the preview of the Roku client that came out a few days ago, still having issues.

Bout to go Emby, no lie.

The Roku version will likely be 6.9.16. I’m not sure when the changes went to the preview channel, but they should definitely be in the latest preview update pushed a couple of hours ago.

Just roll back to Version 1.24.5.5173, it took me a few minutes to do and it’s been working great since. They’ll get it sorted out, trust the process my guy

How? I am on Windows server, if I download an old version it refuses to do anything since there is a newer one installed, and I’m not going to wipe it of course.

Got a complaint that a Roku Express is refusing to play any audio. No one else is having this issue, including Roku TV clients. The Roku Express in question has zero issues playing anything outside of Plex. All other software (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) is perfect.

You do have to uninstall your existing version. The database should remain intact but it’s a good idea to back it up anyways:

It sounds like the issue your user is seeing is not related to this topic though, not sure if rolling back is going to help you. I’d start by resetting the Roku

Has anyone confirmed that this is fixed?

Yes, after 1.25.4…
