Playing 4k - MacOS Catalina - you're not powerful enough

So before I start, let me just say i’m no computer genius, or techno wizard, i turn it on and it usually works, when it doesn’t, i through something in the air, turn it off and walk away.

Up until about five weeks ago, i was able to get my 4k movies to play just fine using the Plex server on either my laptop (macbook), or via the LG WebOs Plex app.

I probably foolishly updated the OS, and ever since then if i try to play a 4k movie in either medium it simply doesn’t work and I get an error message "the server is not powerful enough to convert video’. It gives me this for every single 4k movie file I have - some had worked before, some i just hadn’t tried - either way it seems weird that suddenly these won’t play.

I’ve somewhat ruled out Catalina being the problem because i’ve been unable to find anyone else mentioning her that this is likely the issue. I’ve not changed any settings within the Plex app as far as I remember.

I know this probably isn’t terribly helpful, but has anyone else had this issue suddenly come up, have Plex folk changed something that I’ve not been aware of, or should I go back to a previous version of Plex that did work (how do i do that?).

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated, but bear with me.

My Plex server was perfectly fine up until a month ago, and now I’m getting the same issues. I’m attempting to watch a 720p movie on an iPhone, and it stops to buffer video every minute. The Plex Transcoder is using a whopping 1.1% of CPU power. Maybe we could get a little more work out of the transcoder??

It’s an x264/AAC, so I don’t know why it’s transcoding instead of Direct Playing, but that’s probably another issue.
