Playlist Sync

If a new item is added to a playlist after said playlist has been previously synced, will the new item be sync automatically?

I tried playlist sync today. My first sync attempt was with my music playlist, it contains 498 items all mp3 songs. Like someone mentioned in another post it jumped to 50% complete right away and then eventually crapped out twice.

The first time Plex for Android crashed and restarted and the sync resumed.
The second time the sync stopped with a failure message, “There is an error with this item”. Sync completed over 200 items before this error.

I was still able to play my synced content on my walk but then during my walk I realized as I’m walking down into the subway tunnel that even if playlist sync is awesome it’s still useless as long as we don’t have an offline mode for playing synced content.

I say it’s useless because I have an unlimited data plan on my mobile device and just stream everything so sync to me is only useful if it works offline.

I tried to emulate what you describe and found that more often than not plex seamlessly switched from the online playlist to the synced one. Out of about 10 attempts it only failed to switch twice at which time it prompted me to go to my local content. I was testing by putting my phone in airplane mode. I wonder if it behaves different when connectivity starts getting bad but has not disconnected (like going down into the subway).

I have also noticed some additional querkyness in the sync status indicator. My playlist was synced completely but the indicator said 94%. I had to navigate away and go back in to the status screen to get it to refresh.

I also tested and new items I added to my playlist were synced automatically

I never thought to try airplane mode to test the transition from online to local. I’m trying it now and I think because the sync of my playlist didn’t complete Plex for Android is reporting the playlist having all 498 items and it’s trying to play items that were not synced due to the error that occurred during syncing. I’m going to clear my local content and try again.

I just tried to do the sync again on my 498 item mp3 playlist. Again it stopped at around 78% this time I grabbed the server logs and will attach them here.

If a new item is added to a playlist after said playlist has been previously synced, will the new item be sync automatically?

Yeah, what @WBoweIII said, that’s a supported use case. Unfortunately from the tests I’m making it’s not working great right now, I need to restart the app for the new items to be actually downloaded. We’ll take a look.

The second time the sync stopped with a failure message, “There is an error with this item”.

Yeah, that happened to myself a couple of times today already. Definitely something we are going to investigate and try to get fixed ASAP.

I grabbed the server logs and will attach them here.

Thanks! Next time though can you provide client logs as well? With Sync it’s usually the Android app that misbehaves, so having those logs really helps.

okay so I tried the sync again tonight, it failed again and this time I’m attaching the Plex for Android logs.

I am also getting repeated crashes with syncing a playlist.

@ManuelPG Do you need anymore info, or you have what you need to fix?

@ManuelPG This morning I received the update to Plex for Android version 5.0.1.61 (9fb200d8) and immediately attempted playlist sync of a music playlist with 509 tracks.

I am extremely happy to say that the sync completed 100% success on first attempt.

Good to know, thanks for the heads up!
