I’ve been running Plex on my PC (Windows 10 Pro, i7, 32mb memory, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB) from many years without any problem suddenly a week ago it start crushing all the time. Even when I’m not watching it the Plex media serer in the icon tray disappears and I have to restarted. I tried reinstall it but still crashing.
There only error on the console is “Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle): 28” I don’t know if this could be the problem.
Here’s the error messages immediately preceding the system crash:
Jun 30, 2021 14:26:03.432 [18336] ERROR - IsDirectory failed boost::filesystem::path codecvt to string: error
Jun 30, 2021 14:26:03.433 [18336] ERROR - FATAL ERROR: Log: Error handling format string 'Couldn't check for the existence of file %s: %s': boost::filesystem::path codecvt to string: error
You system is also having trouble scanning some music files:

Check the file permissions for those albums.
Also try moving them out of the library to a place where Plex cannot scan them.
I removed the files.
Those files were on my library for long time though and I didn’t have any problem before.
I will let you know.
Thanks again for you help,
Unfortunately the fix didn’t work. It crashed again I had to go out and when I came back as soon I touched the icon in tray the icon disappears and I had to restart the program.
I’m uploading the last zip file if you want to take a look. Plex Media Server Logs_2021-06-30_17-25-58.zip (1.1 MB)
I’m having the same problem. Plex has been stable and never crashed for a very long time. I updated to 1.23.4.4712 and suddenly it is crashing multiple times a day. Nothing else about my system changed just updated the version. My personal suspicion is that one of their scanners has a bug that makes it very sensitive to media state and if anything goes wrong at all it just crashes all of Plex. I hope they fix it soon.
If there is a way to roll back the server version, and a repository of old versions somewhere I could try to go hunting for the specific version that introduced the issue.
I saw from the log that all the errors were from the folder used for the music library so I tried to delete my plex music library completely, has been one day and so far no crashing. Maybe you’re up to something with your suspicion…
By the way I’m in version Version 1.23.3.4707 and it says I’m up to date how you can be in version Version 1.23.4.4712? Just curious.
Thanks! That is half the battle. The other half is knowing how to actually roll back. I’m concerned about DB changes in particular if I just install an old version on top of my current install.
As for the version difference, I’m not sure. I have Plex Pass and am running the “beta” version. That is what Plex told me to update to. I didn’t do anything special to request it.
Well, if it makes you feel any better - I just downgraded to the June 5 release (PlexMediaServer-1.23.2.4656) because I got tired of the latest PMS constantly crashing - couldn’t even make it through any movies. No DB worries or anything - I just uninstalled the previous version and installed the June 5 release. It recognized my previous DB and settings as if nothing had happened, and I am now back to watching my shows and movies without issue. Go for it!
Also, the crashing PMS is happening in the public beta channel - I haven’t been on the beta channel in well over a year, and the public beta release of PMS has been crashing like crazy. I’d advise you to change to the public channel unless you want to be part of the beta program and suffer even more bugs on occasion.
Thanks! I may end up doing that. I just got a notification of 1.23.4.4775 so I’m trying that first. If it works though I probably will flip off the beta though. This crashing is no fun.
