Please Switch from NAS to WD Drive

I am attempting to switch from my Synology NAS to my WD My Passport external hard drive for my LG Smart TV. I have the WD hard drive plugged into the TV but I do not know how to tell the SmartTV Plex app to look there instead of the NAS. I dont see how to program an IP address or search for the drive.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The Plex app on your TV needs an actual Plex media Server to connect to. If you’ve installed a version of PMS on that WD NAS, make sure you’re setting up the server using the same Plex account. Once the server is running and connected to your account, the new server’s libraries should show up in the Plex apps (incl. that on your Smart TV).

It is not a WD NAS. It is a WD Passport external hard drive.

It is this Amazon.com: (Old Model) WD My Passport Ultra 2 TB Portable External USB 3.0 Hard Drive with Auto Backup, Black : Electronics

The Plex app streams media from a Plex Media Server. It cannot play media on a hard drive connected to the TV USB port.

so there is no way to make Plex work on an external hard drive? I swore there was.

Only if you plug said drive into a device which itself can run Plex server.

Or if said drive is not merely an “external drive” but a fully-featured NAS.
